Rudest door staff and management have ever encountered. Had been told by many peers when visiting Boston that my Irish passport would be the only form of identification accepted by bars. On visiting Coogans, my cousins (who were on a visa) were marked with a double stamp marking them as Irish- it was noted that no other non-Irish had a double stamp. When I presented my passport I was told that I would not be admitted in as I had no visa in my passport (I'm a tourist..why would I have a visa in my passport?).
My cousin challenged this and was told by the door man that they "had trouble with the Irish". On asking for the manager she was greeted with a man that failed to give his name and stated in a raised and aggressive manner that it was Mass. Law that you needed a second form of ID. My cousin has lived here for three years and has never heard of anyone being turned away on presentation of a passport, never mind being challenged on the visa status of said passport or having to present a second form of ID. The manager failed to even engage with my cousin when she stated this and simply walked off.
On review of the whole night, the staff of Coogans were executing blatant discrimination and the failure to even engage with a paying customer (my cousin had paid a cover) displays not only a truly unprofessional manner but extremely disrespectful to tourist...
Read moreI don’t get why everyone has to write bad about Coogans. Going to a college bar with $1 Bud and Bud Light drafts and you all have such high expectations. I’ve been coming to Coogans for about 4-5 years a couple times a year with friends when we go into the city. The place has always been alright. I’ve never gone in with high expectations. I still miss when Jose McIntyres was across the street. The service was never stellar and the food is decent drunk food. We always arrive before cover charge, usually start the night there, we all rally buying each other drinks. The staff is usually very efficient with serving multiple beers and never give us any trouble. They always have some poured and ready to go which makes for a speedy purchase when you’re looking to buy for a group of 10. I’ve never felt that the beer is watered down here and I’ve never had a problem with the security especially with what they have to put up with on the weekends. The place is always packed and everyone has a great time. The bathroom usually ends up a mess. But it’s to be expected with how much volume comes through here. I’ll take a Coogans trip over a Casseys Sports Bar (in Attleboro) trip any day. Check the Yelp reviews, theyre a little more realistic. You should go into Coogans with the idea you can drink for cheap and have a good time at the cost of high class...
Read moreI was at Coogans last night and was kicked out for no reason. I was standing alone drinking my beer when several guys grabbed my neck and forced me out the door with zero explanation. When I tried to get an answer from the bouncers outside they refused to tell me anything. When my friends came outside we walked down the street about 100ft from the coogans entrance. I explained to them that I think coogans sucks because they kicked me out for no reason, assaulted me, and then provided zero explanation. The bouncer then overheard us talking, followed us down the street and began to threaten us. He proceeded to tell me that he “wish I would swing” so that he could “end my life”. This guy would have obviously beat me senseless, but that’s okay because he seems to get off on threatening people he knows he can over power. Overall I paid 10 bucks to get in, another 10 on their pisswater that they call beer, and stood around a bunch of dudes because no sane girl would ever come to this place. The best part is that my friend had this exact same situation happen to him a few months ago. 0/10 will probably never go again. It’s shame too cause I had their Mac and cheese burger in the last and that is actually...
