I went there Saturday night for dinner. We were turned away from dining in because a party of 23 was coming. We asked if we could order to go instead. The hostess referred us to the bar. The bartender double checked with the manager if we (2 people) were allowed to sit and wait for our to go order and drink the 2 drinks we had ordered. Manager said no because they were over capacity with the giant party about to come in. We were told to go wait on the freezing cold balcony and our food would be brought to us. The guy who brought us the food didn't bring it in a bag. I asked him for one since we had to walk to our hotel. He disappeared and I saw him cleaning tables after like 5 min of waiting. I went and talked to the hostess and she said they were out of bags. So why did this guy just ditch our food in the kitchen instead of telling us that? The food was like $40 and was enough for 1 person, not 2. Also, the party of 23 never showed the entire hour we were there. I just felt like this whole thing was a waste of an opportunity to make money. Like I get the whole Covid-19 restrictions, but why did I have to ask to put in an order? Why did I have to ask for a bag? Why did I have to ask where to wait? I worked in food for like 5 years. I was always trained when our place was full to say, "I'd be happy to take your to go order and feel free to wait specific place while we prepare your food. If I have a table open, I will be sure to seat you first. Would you like a drink while you wait?" I just feel for the amount of money we paid for our to go order, we should have received better service.
My boyfriend really liked the atmosphere and we felt like the food tasted good. Plus, it was right next to the hotel we were at. So we decided to give them a second chance for breakfast on our way back home.
The portions were TINY, the coffee was bitter (even saw other customers making faces while drinking it), and our waiter had to be asked why when we split the check I had been charged the full check and my boyfriend was charged half the check. I checked my bank account and sure enough had been charged the full price. The waiter said he could bring me the voided receipt and updated total I'd been charged. Like duh I'm not going to sign for the full amount when you've already charged my boyfriend for half and you should show the customer the amount they've been charged with the voided copy. The manager stopped us on our way out the door to rudely explain the check had been adjusted. Like lady, you should be apologetic, not rude to someone when it looks like you're trying to steal their money. And this should have all been explained when dropping off the check. The customer shouldn't even have to bring up that they're being charged twice according to the receipts you just handed them.
Honestly, I'm entirely disappointed and put off by this place. Which sucks because it looks really cool and has such potential. Maybe they're just having a bad weekend?
Update 10/14: I checked my bank account and I was charged twice for my breakfast. $41.48 for the full amount and $24.15 for half the check + tip. I emailed the owner per the comment and have not heard back. I called and left a voicemail and haven't heard back.
Update 10/22: while gathering evidence to dispute the $41.48 charge with my bank, my boyfriend noticed he was also double charged: $41.48 AND $23.14. Still no answer from Cabin Juice. Just in case you're wondering, if we hadn't disputed this with our credit cards Cabin Juice would have made $130.25 off of us for a...
Read moreWe ate dinner in one of the snow cabanas and it was lovely! The cabana was set up to be super cozy — it had board games, heaters, couches, and blankets. We felt very secluded in the best way!
The food was the best that I’ve had in breck! Also, the presentation of everything was well-done.
Drinks: My party really enjoyed the El Presidente drink, but weren’t as impressed by the French 75 (it really just tasted of cognac & lemon). I really liked the Matcha Colada but it tasted more of pineapple than coconut (good for me, bad for my partner).
Starters: The grilled sourdough was a surprise hit!! It has a delicious smoky taste and the butter it came with was perfect. The fried zucchini was also tasty.
Mains: Everyone enjoyed their main courses (see photos for all the ones we had). The short rib was well-cooked and tender, and the fennel it came with were very crispy! I personally didn’t love the polenta b/c the mascarpone made it a little sweet, but that was definitely a personal preference.
Sides: The brussles sprouts were delicious with the goat cheese and golden raisins. The crispy fingerling potatoes were also great!
Dessert: Wow, the desserts were all fantastic! Multiple people mentioned they’d come back just to eat them. The Passion Lava Cake was stellar on its own, and incredible as a vegan dessert! I’d definitely recommend seeking it out if you are vegan. The cheesecake was perfectly salted and a huge portion. However, the standout dessert was the Sticky Toffee Pudding! It was buttery and went great with the caramel sauce. It was my favorite dessert (and I don’t even like puddings like this normally!).
Service was leisurely, but the snow cabanas and the restaurant are so cozy and inviting that it’s a place you’d like to spend some time in! Just don’t come with plans for after dinner :).
Restaurant is dog and ski-boot friendly, a true apres experience!
Overall, we enjoyed this location so much we are talking about returning before our vacation ends. I would highly recommend it!
UPDATE: Returned two days later for lunch! The red pepper sandwich was particularly enjoyable and I’d definitely get it again. My partner’s turkey blt was good but not standout! Both came with chips and a pickle. The pickle was much closer to a sour pickle than a sweet one,...
Read moreI recommended to my husband we should do dinner here after I got takeout with a friend a few months ago (the takeout was delicious! spring pea risotto and a passion fruit dessert - a bit on the pricier side but the food was good so I wrote it off as that). We decided to come for dinner on a weekend away from home, we live in Denver. We made a reservation, the place was busy but not full and was not too loud, which was nice. We split the butternut squash salad with arugula. It was okay. I LOVE arugula, my husband could take it or leave it. From the looks of the place, I thought we would get something artistic, but in fact, we got a salad that looked like something I made at home - all arugula with small pieces of squash and goat cheese. It was also huge (no complaints there) but it felt like we were eating arugula forever. lol.
For dinner, I ordered the Black Cod entrée. My husband got the short rib dish. He LOVED his, it was filling and flavorful (except for, his words, "the chopped green stuff on top that kept ruining all of the other flavors") I enjoyed the fish in my entrée, as that was the bulk of it. It was swimming in a flavorful Asian-inspired broth and surrounded by big chunks of bok choy and snap peas. I wish there was something a bit more filling about my dish as I ended up nibbling on some of my husband's. After a while, my mouth got tired from chewing the arugula and then the bok choy and then the peas. The fish, DELISH! We decided not to stay for dessert and wandered town for some entertainment. I'd go back again but maybe try another meal (breakfast, lunch or brunch). Our server was nice, I don't remember his name, but he never cleared the table, so we ate dinner with our half-empty salads next to us and my empty cocktail glass. It may have been too crowded if we ordered dessert.
This place is overpriced for what we got in terms of service and food ($160 for one drink, one salad and two entrées) but I'd be willing to give it a second...
