I give this place two stars because of their server, Meghan, who is very unfriendly and rude and makes these small gestures and impolite grimaces masquerading as a smile. I have eaten here a total of three times in the past month. I am new to the area and wanted a new sushi spot. Upon my first visit, Meghan did not introduce herself; she hurriedly rushed me through the menu; the restaurant was not busy. Itâs Coronavirus time and I was surprised that I seemed to be interrupting her day, as was the impression that I got. I sat down, ordered. Ate my meal. I drank two glasses of water, which I ordered without ice (Google, âârestaurant iceâ and âgermsââ) and she brought it to me with ice, which she immediately recognized as she haphazardly placed the drink in front of me, only to take it away. This caused some water to splash. Her behavior seemed âoffâ the second time I had her as my waitress juxtaposed against my second visit with another server, Fran, who was very polite and well-mannered. I went there with my friend a week ago and Megan stated that she remembered me yet was very hesitant to welcome me back. I do not know why. She never offered bread (which is delicious and free, btw!) and I had to ask for it. We ordered our food and mine came out very quickly. It was just a seaweed salad as I am trying to go vegetarian at this phase in life. When they brought the seaweed salad out so quickly, Megan was prompt to take it back to the kitchen, but it was also something she could have easily asked the food runner not to do and prevented me from knowing that my salad wasnât fresh.
She awkwardly asked me if I wanted the salad when my friendâs sushi came out and I answered, âYes,â and she mumbled some apology maybe (?!) ÂŻ(ă)/ÂŻ and quickly ran off with my salad. When it was time to pay, Megan took 15 minutes to come back and collect our payment. It was not busy and this isnât the type of place to have a ârush,â during COVID-19. I could see she was busy socializing with other employees and she rolled her eyes at me when I asked her name.
She made me feel like an inconvenience and very unwelcome. I looked around and saw the four other sets of patrons happily settled with their beverages as I walked out. My friend asked for separate checks and Megan only gave us one black book and one pen. I had to wait for my friend to sign everything and then pass it along to me, after having waited 15 minutes to get our cards run; when I pointed this out to Megan, she did NOT want to take my constructive criticism, rolled her eyes, and told me that she intentionally only gave us one book and one pen because she otherwise âwould have had to get two...â
I will never eat here or take my many business associates to this place again. I will find another sushi restaurant in Newark where servers actually care about their job and helping you. Megan did not mention the bread to me on either of my two visits with her and only Fran offered it to me. Megan is impolite, rude, and does not care. I would not like to experience this place again in case she...
Read morehad not been here in a few years, went the other day and ordered takeout to treat a couple coworkers as well. one friend said her hot and sour soup was satisfying/ok/good, yet her chicken for the chicken lettuce wraps was chopped very fine and quality was not the best, like she didn't like it yet ate it because she was hungry and didn't want to waste it.
other friend said her salmon was dry and bland, basically pan seared and plopped in the box. no glaze, no spice. yet the broccoli was steamed perfectly.
we all decided the crab wonton was basically the cheese filling in the fried dough etc., no crab flavor or if any meat was imperceptible and even very little cheese filling.
my lobster shiitake steamed potstickers (maybe should have just got pan seared), the texture of the filling was off putting like chewy and hard to tell what i was eating, no lobster flavor/bland and barely a hint of mushrooms (the sauces helped but not much). my spicy tuna roll had ? daikon in it occupying a lot of space, the tuna was unacceptable in terms of freshness yet chopped so fine like paste and not much of it, the ginger was a little not fresh too yet i've had worse, and way too much rice and not enough sesame or sauce.
my chicken satay (i wanted the chicken skewers with peanut sauce thingy, yet somehow got something else)... the chicken meat itself is of lower level quality (cheap cuts) but maybe i should have expected this, the snow peas were over cooked and the sauce was monotone and overly sweet. the brown rice was a little overcooked.
granted we got takeout (but quality should remain) and i should have maybe ordered a basic potsticker with beef/pork/veggie and pan seared rather than steamed.
we also received no courtesy bread
i have never had daikon (or ? apple) in a spicy tuna roll, which was not spicy at all and had no spicy sauce etc, way too much rice and way too little tuna and daikon ??? i've had tuna chopped very finely before usually in low quality situations, it's a tell tale sign and the lobster was not good and chicken meat not of high quality can't blame this all on getting take out though
at least the hot and sour soup and steamed broccoli my friends liked
will not repeat i've had much better at hole in the wall take out places and for less money
mind you i REALLY tried...
Read moreBrought the family that includes teens and tweens, to Pot Stickers, while passing through on a roadtrip. We had talked about eating at Red Lobster, but decided to give Pot Stickers a try (they share a parking lot) . On a Saturday night our party of 8 was seated promptly. Initial service was slow, but we were adequately attended to as the meal progressed. They brought rolls (bread) with our drinks that were devoured - they were really good for the road weary family. We got some sushi rolls - my kids enjoyed the Sea Dragon roll, and California rolls, then on to the main course. Many in the party ordered the Teriyaki Chicken - which was alright, but lacking in flavor. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai, which was WONDERFUL. I shared with my wife and she also said it was really good (she had ordered the Teriyaki Chicken) They serve with a little dish of sauce on the side: sweet, tangy, spicy magic sauce ...It may be the best Pad Thai I have ever eaten! I took leftovers back to the hotel (in case of a midnight snack emergency) and finished it off for breakfast. It was just as good microwave-reheated. (Since visiting Pot Stickers, I ate Pad Thai again but it was not as good)
Portions were large but prices per plate were high ($$$ rather than $$), although we spent less that we would have at Red Lobster. That said if I were in the area again, I would definitely go back for...
