I’d like to be the first person who actually gives this bakery an honest review. If you are like me and get easily influenced by how beautiful these pastries appear in the pictures, know that looking good is all they have going for them. They are dry, old, and tasteless.
My family drove from Maryland to try out this bakery due to its amazing reviews and the fact that Turkish bakeries are not very common in the area. We were very excited to try the pastries and baklava. However, when we walked in, the woman working there was extremely rude over simple questions. There were no prices of the cake slices written in the display, and also no name or description for the flavors. When we simply asked how much something was or were curious about its flavor, the woman responded with a very rude and annoyed attitude.
When we sat down to try the pastries, we found the cake slices to be very dry. The cream was not fresh, and it appears as though the slices had been sitting out for days. Additionally, the baklava was extremely sweet and did not have any crispiness to it at all. However, the worst part was the flies. There were flies all over the bakery, and they kept trying to sit on our food as we were eating, and in fact even succeeded a few times in sitting on it. I have provided an image of this in the review.
What I also found to be strange was that when a white couple came in after us, she was significantly nicer to them when they asked questions. She laughed with them and responded way more kindly than she did with my family. If you are a person of color, know that you will be treated with less kindness, dignity, and respect if you come here.
Overall, I give this bakery a 0/5. Not a single person in my family enjoyed the food here, and we even bought boxes of baklava and cookies to take home, and other people who tried these sweets felt the same way. These reviews are either extremely fake, or the owner had her family members give her 5 stars. If you don’t want to waste your money on subpar pastries, do...
Read moreWow wow wow! I've only tried a few things so far, but they have been amazingly good! First the milk cake caught my eye. Both the caramel and raspberry were wonderful .... Truly something wonderfully different and definitely the best cake I've ever eaten. I went back just a few days later for more milk cake (biscoff this time) and also picked up some baklava. Note that I got the baklava as a treat for someone who had never tasted it. I expected the milk cake to be as fabulous as the first flavors I had tried, and I was not disappointed. But the traditional walnut baklava was the really delightful surprise. Best ever! Flaky top layers, fantastic filling, and a buttery honey-soaked bottom layer. I was really thrilled with it! The textures and flavors were wonderful. I can't recommend this bakery enough ... It's worth the drive from wherever you are! The fact that it's in the same center as La Tolonteca, Firebirds, etc., makes it extra attractive. Stop by for treats or have a wonderful dinner and then top it off with a fantastic dessert at Moon Star. They're generally...
Read moreThis is our 2nd visit to Moon Star and it is honestly just as wonderful as the 1st! The selection is varied and beautifully crafted. A few items aren't labeled, but the gentleman had no problem explaining them to me. Money is no object when it comes to treats, so I didnt even ask however, 2 coffees and 6 cookies totaled about $8.50.
There is passion and care visible throughout the bakery Cafe. We will definitely be using them to create our daughter's birthday cake. Thank you for the addictive Turkish coffee, delicious pastries, cakes and clean facilities. I wish them enormous success! And although others have already posted videos of the bomb display case... I couldn't resist...
