My husband and I, are on vacation at Charlotte Amalie area, and decided to go to the Greenhouse for happy hour around 6:15pm yesterday (2/15/2024) and the hostess was speaking on the side of the stairs with a client (seems that they knew each other well enough) about getting her in trouble unintentionally, this happened while we were waiting in front of the booth, then she was heading to speak to someone (potentially the manager) and then realized we were there and she was noticeable upset. So, she had an attitude with us to begin with and was not even welcoming. After few tries of getting seated at a table that was less crowded and breathable (bc it was really hot even with the many fans), we got a table but we decided to leave due to her attitude towards us due to her behavior and lack of welcoming manners. The place seems to be a to go place, but her attitude was a turned off. Another, issues, as she pretended to looking for a table to sit us, one of the wrapped silverware felt on the floor near her hosting stand, she was expecting me to pick it up for her…she made a stupid comment (you could have picked that up), to what I said, sorry I could have picked up, but her attitude was so nasty that I said, but I don’t work here. I’m at this place to pay for our meal and service and not to do her job. That kind of attitude is repulsive and if she wanted to be a nice host, regardless of what had happened before, where obviously she got in trouble, then we would have stay. You don’t treat visitors and guest to your restaurant like they are unwelcome. Bad business.
Going back to first impressions and wanting your customers to go back, I have so many options to go eat that we end up going to a beautiful and peaceful area by the water and enjoy a great dinner listening to...
Read moreOur visit was 2 May 2022 after someone told us this would be a great place to eat. We saw it a couple of times, saw it was crowded most of the time around dinner, it is in downtown Charlotte Amalie where cruise ships come in and Carnival was going on. They have covered in/outdoor seating and the place had a nice island décor vibe. We went out last full day on the island, with Carnival over and no cruise ships in port. Needless to say, we were disappointed. You could not get ½ lobster or they did not have all ingredients to make lobster bisque soup, but you could only get lobster tail. Which 3 wanted in our party of 6. Also, one of us wanted fried fish was also unavailable. Okay, we are on an island, surrounded by water, so are there no good fishermen that could provide. However, we saw two gentlemen working their tail ends off while we were there, but our waitress was lazy and none caring. Sad thing is they charge gratuity on your bill, so I guess she figured she was going to get a tip anyway. We had to ask her for multiple items to bring and she kept forgetting. We say a couple of other tables next to us having the same problem. One time she disappeared in back, not looking at her tables to ensure no of us needed anything, then came back about 15 minutes later. We asked her did she forget the containers she was to bring back and she chuckled apologize and said she forgot because she had just come from the bathroom. So, you can only imagine what was going through our minds. The food was nothing to brag about neither. Ribeye has to be sent back to be corrected. So, we were not impressed at all with this place. Maybe their social hour and drinks might be good, but for a seriously good...
Read moreWe like Happy Hour for the 2 for 1 drinks and discounted appetizers. We ordered 3 Happy Hour Heineken at $6.75 each, so in turn we received 6 Heineken for $20.25. That is a good deal for drinking at a restaurant, but you can buy a 6 pack at Kmart on sale for $9.99. We ordered the Bang Bang Calamari appetizer, which tasted very good and a large portion. Then everything started going downhill from there. The chicken wings appetizer were overcooked and they were so very small we thought they came from the local pigeons. Plus feathers were still attached to some of the wings. The main course we ordered a 20 oz. T-bone steak Medium, but it was medium well done. The mashed potatoes were plain. The waiter didn't ask if we wanted gravy or butter for the mashed potatoes. The sweet plantains were very good, but the coleslaw had a strong vinegar taste and had no shredded carrots or raisins in it. We are in the Caribbean & most Caribbean coleslaw has raisins in it also. We ordered the Bang Bang Shrimp Wrap and it was pretty good, but nothing home to write about. The appetizer happy hour isn't really worth it anymore. Years ago the appetizers were half price, now it's only $2.00 off. Watch out that you don't order from the Starters Menu that are on the same page as the Appetizers, because the Starters are not included in the Happy Hour discount. The restaurant is busy, but overrated. The restaurant also has video lottery terminal (VLT) machines to play in a back room of the restaurant. Unfortunately, they don't have crab night anymore. Very disappointed. It is now a steak night. The Greenhouse is like TGIF from the states, but some dishes are better prepared, others...
