The Galleon House is perfectly located in the heart of Charlotte Amalie. The host's Sonia and Harry happily welcome you into their beautiful historical hotel. As you walk up the numerous stairs you immediately are enraptured with the exotic trees, flowers, plants and picturesque views of downtown. The front desk areas architecture looks as if it were carved right out of a cave. You can't help but take a moment and soak in the incredible panoramic views of the city below.
While checking in Langley kindly shared delectables suggestions on where to find authentic St. Thomian dishes. He then brought our 3 large luggages to the room. He made sure that we were comfortable before closing the front desk for the evening.
We stayed in room 333 (one bedroom private bath). Upon entering we were welcomed by the brisk winds of the much needed ac and fragrant scent of fabuloso(IYKYK). The room is clean, small, and quaint.
At breakfast we throughly enjoyed speaking with the knowledgeable hostess Sonia. She peaked our interest in learning more about the enchanted island and hotels history. Sonia spoke so lovingly and gentle about the natives and those who migrated there. The amazingly gorgeous prime location, Sonia & the staff informative & vibrant spirits, and the budget friendly and comfortable stay will make you a frequent guest.
Things To Note: • Sonia & Harry took over the Galleon House Hotel at the onset of the global pandemic and hurricane wreckage. As the world begins to slowly opens up they will continue renovating. Please practice patience and consideration. • Keep in mind to travel lightly, St Thomas is the land of hills. When you reach the hotel call the front desk and they will help you up with your luggage. • Sonia & Harry are following the governments strict covid laws, in the future they may resume hot breakfasts, but for now they offer a delicious continental breakfast with fresh juice, water, and coffee. • The Galleon House Hotel is hundreds of years old. This was the slaves quarters before they were emancipated in 1848. Keeping the integrity and authenticity is important to Sonia & Harry as well as...
Read moreWhen I booked it was about $137 a night. When I got there they jacked the price to almost $170 a night for two nights! It ended up costing almost $400 for two nights. I could have stayed at a three or four star hotel with a ground level entrance and elevators. This one is rated one star and it's no wonder. I told them I had back surgery and didn't do well with stairs. I was told there's only six stairs to my door. When I got there there were three or four ramshackle buildings up the side of a mountain and there were over 60 I repeat 60 stairs just to the reception! From there she said it's only six stairs. There were 18 more stairs! The so-called view was the back of another building and some ram shackle broken down fencing with wires running everywhere building to building. Their so called breakfast was a single nearly black banana, a couple of those fruit cups, a couple little cereal boxes, and some mediocre lukewarm coffee. It was terrible and people were complaining. That's where I met the elderly couple who's Jeep the management had towed away. Nicest people on the planet and the gentleman was 86 years old and had cancer! They had been coming to this hotel for 30 years for their anniversary. The new owner refused to reimburse them for having their jeep towed away. They will never go back as they told me. I took videos and posted them on youtube. The management and receptionist blew me off when I said I was told there were only six steps to my door and it turns out there were nearly 80! Besides that the bed was like a cardboard box and for some reason the shower was built down into a hole so you actually had to take two steps down into the shower! The cable box didn't work and they didn't fix it when I came back the first day so I had to figure out how to reset it myself. The TV was the size of a...
Read moreI wish I could give zero stars because I would. Even though this is an economically friendly way to stay in USVI I was really disappointed. We booked our trip through Priceline, and thought we had paid for everything. We arrived to the Galleon House and checked in April 30th. We stayed until May 6th. Apparently we had only paid for the first day of our stay through Priceline. So when we went to check out we were told we owed $775. We were not told at check in we had a balance and even though Harry claims to have said we “needed to square up” that is not true. Both my husband and I can validate that. We go to check out and was told we had a balance but didn’t have that amount in our bank account however our card was on file and we asked politely if they could charge our card later in the afternoon so we could transfer the money and get to the airport for our 11:30am flight. Harry refused to let us go until we paid knowing that we didn’t have any options at the time and the flight we were supposed to be on was the only flight out for the day so we could not get another flight. I understand that they didn’t want to lose money however, when you fail to tell a guest about a balance owed up front instead of waiting until the day they’re checking out and leaving and then put them in a situation like ours where you refuse to be a part of the solution that is just unprofessional. We had a blast in USVI but the Galleon House was the worst part of our stay. Rooms are musty smelling, beds hard as a rock, cockroaches the size of a strawberry can be seen. Don’t waste...
