The most positive things I can say about this place is that the room was clean and the owner was friendly. It was cheap and within walking distance of many shops and restaurants too. The place looks like an abandoned construction site. There is no sign to even indicate what it is so we had trouble finding it. In fact, we were sure that couldn’t be it because it looked so bad. Across the street is what looks like a flop house for low life males who stay up all night every night drinking, smoking (something), laughing and hollering. It sounds like they’re right outside your window. The dresser in the room was covered with cigarette burns. There is a window style air conditioner but there’s no glass in the windows, only metal louvers that don’t function properly so we had to keep the bathroom door shut and the bath mat covering the crack under the door to keep the cool air in. We could only rarely get anything on the tv because it ran on the internet which didn’t work well at all. There was only a trickle of water in the bathroom and it was only cold water. The bed was not comfortable. There is no phone, no fridge, no microwave, no minibar, no hairdryer, no tiny bottles of shampoo. There are only 4 very tight parking spots available that are not easy to get into. One day we came back from our adventures wanting nothing mre than a nice nap but for whatever reason all the spots were taken. We spent more than two hours driving around town looking for a spot to park. Finally we got lucky and snagged one about two blocks away just as someone else was vacating it and walked back to our room. My advice is pay more money and stay in a better place. The pictures on the internet do not resemble the...
Read moreThis place is truly AWFUL! It is located a block off Main Street so technically it's "in the middle of everything" but Main Street shuts down around 4pm, so getting to and from your room on foot around dinner time requires navigating down sketchy streets. All rooms face a central courtyard with bathroom windows that face out. All that aside, the AC was louder than a jet engine, old and musty and not cold at all, and as much as I hated using it all night, I had to keep it on because of all the MOSQUITOES in my room, and I was still eaten alive by them! They seemed to multiply in the middle of the night! There was a TV in the room but it didn't have "normal TV," only apps like YouTube, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. that you need accounts to sign in. So it was essentially useless. Not that I wanted to stay in the room longer than I had to. In fact, I paid for two nights in advance but after spending one hot, sleepless, mosquito ridden night, I checked out early the next day and told them to keep the money. I'm all for "local color" but let's call this for what it really is...
Read moreFascinating old-style building, great location. Rooms are small (they fit 2 full beds with a nightstand between, a small chair in the corner by the bathroom door, and that's about it) but clean, some of the finish work, plumbing and wiring is a bit rough, but this is the caribbean, and that said, everything works... ok, the toilet may need a little extra help sometimes to stop refilling.
Nicely quiet! Rooms all look onto a central courtyard. They are doing some renovation or hurricane repair or something, so there is some scaffolding in the central courtyard at the moment.
A/C thru-wall unit in each room, with remote. Shower plumbing is also unusual: one hot tap, one cold tap, and one "system" overall flow control in the center. Small restaurant breakfast/lunch on premises. Useful to bring a bottle of water to your room, unless chlorinated tap is to your liking. No coffeemaker, no desk, clock has a charging station, TV is wall mounted, terracotta tile floors in rooms: very practical for this area. Nice...
