Eighteen (18) years ago, I flew down to St. Thomas by myself, in order to meet up with Max Daswani (the very kind owner of Artistic Jewelers) for the very first time. Taking “a Leap of Faith”, my mission was to find, and then purchase two exquisite, matching diamond wedding rings from Max (one for my “then” girlfriend, Patti… and one for me). I was planning to ask Patti to marry me the following month (during Christmas, 2004).

Thankfully, Patti said “YES” to my surprise Christmas wedding proposal… she absolutely LOVED the sparkling new diamond engagement ring that Max had custom-created just for her! During our honeymoon Princess Cruise to the Eastern Caribbean in April of 2005, our ship made a scheduled stop at the cruise port in St. Thomas. This gave me the perfect opportunity to take my new bride, Patti, over to Artistic Jewelers to finally meet Max and his lovely wife in person (picture #1).

Now… fast forward to today (18-years later). After putting on a lot more weight since our wedding day (and also experiencing severe arthritis in my finger joints), I could no longer get my beautiful wedding ring over my knuckles. Wanting to get my original wedding ring resized, I could not find a local jeweler that was even willing to attempt to enlarge my ring (due to the intricate “invisible” setting of the 32-square cut princess diamonds that might possibly fall out during the ring resizing procedure). When I called Max to explain my frustrating dilemma, he immediately said “No Problem -- You and Patti need to come back down to St. Thomas so that we can take care of that for you”! Wow… what a great excuse to visit St. Thomas and the beautiful Virgin Islands once again!

Max and his very talented Master Jeweler did an incredible job in reworking my wedding ring and resizing it up 3-full ring sizes. They also cleaned and polished Patti’s gorgeous wedding ring to absolute perfection (picture #2). Speaking about unbelievable customer service… when Patti and I returned back to Artistic Jewelers 5-days later to pick up our finished wedding rings, Max surprised both of us with a delicious catered fresh fish and chicken taco lunch (that he insisted we eat and enjoy right there on top of his jewelry display case)! We were truly treated like family... an amazing experience!

Max and his entire professional staff at Artistic Jewelers have certainly been a real pleasure to do business with. We strongly suggest that you take the time to visit their beautiful showroom next time you are in St. Thomas... their quality and prices simply can't be beat! The staff's honesty, integrity, patience, creativity, and attention to detail are attributes that are rarely found today in the retail jewelry business. Best birthday ever! We were looking for something special for my big bday this year and this shop was only the second we passed through. My honey wanted to spoil me for my birthday and I was looking for a simple statement (tanzanite) ring (high expectations and simple). However, St Thomas can be hard sellers of jewelry and you can feel accosted. This wasn’t the case here! Most fun we’ve had shopping! They figured out my taste and knew exactly what I wanted! It’s a full service jewelry shop and they’re interested , not in the quick sale, but in the relationship. We sipped Prosecco and talked gems. They showed us amazing other St Thomas sourced one of a kind products (coffee, rum, spiked coffee -that now will be coming home with me in my checked baggage), AND they solved a 20 yr old problem for me at the same time. I had an old diamond stud that was stuck in my right ear because the back had fused (the jeweler used a push on back with a screw back) and they got their custom shop upstairs to remove it! (quick! Painless! Funny! Now that’s full service ;-)

Let’s say I’m the happiest birthday girl ever - one diamond “yoga” bracelet, a set of gorgeous diamond hoop earrings (I’ve never been able to wear them because they always were huge and too jersey shore for me) and a gorgeous, iconic, heart stopping 2.37 carat tanzanite ring later - and now we have a “jewelry guy” in case we should need one in the future.
