Today we went for lunch at Side Street Pub in St. Thomas. We had 8 people in our party, the owner greeted us in the alley and told us there was a table just for us to sit at. 1st, at the time the owner sat us, he never said they were short staffed and our lunch would take an extremely long time to make. 2nd, our server was sweet, lovely and genuine with her descriptions of the food as she was taught. 3rd, a short time after we placed our order for the recommended and well known pulled pork, the server and the owner came out to tell us the bad news that the 4 orders of pulled pork nachos would not have enough pulled pork, so we would need to order something else. We all did, but was never told it would be 1 1/2 hours before our food would come out. 4th, the yellow cheese on the nachos, we were told was made from scratch homemade...melted Velveeta, is not homemade! 5th nothing special with any of the flavors on the chicken nachos or the beef nachos. And for the expensive price, we definitely expected more flavor and taste. $17-$19 per meal. 6th, after we were done, I mentioned to the server that the owner should credit us something due to the discrepancies. So she told the owner and he came out.... 7th the owner had a chip on his shoulder, rude attitude and told me off. That I have the nerve to ask for any type of discount for his "so called, great food." He said loudly he would not credit anything to us and we need to pay the full bill because he takes time for each meal and we should not expect it to take less than 7 minutes per meal to make. This restaurant and owner is a disgrace to all restauranteurs who are working hard at being respectful and curious to any customer that orders a meal. I did tell the server, if this owner treats his customers this badly and rudely, he probably is treating her worse and she needs to find another job where she is spoken to well...
Read moreRemember The Mamas and The Papas song with the lyric "No one's getting fat except Mama Cass"? The actual title of that song was "Creque Alley" and if you visit the wonderful little Side Street Pub, you can actually eat in that exact spot! It's common for business owners in downtown St Thomas to stand outside their stores to invite customers inside to see what they have to offer. Kim welcomed us inside and we were absolutely not disappointed by the simple fare or the few choices on their menu. We had Ahi Tuna Tacos and the chicken sandwich which was served with a bag of Wise potato chips. The food and especially the warm hospitality made this little stop memorable. Locals might be fussy gourmands but the Side Street Pub is perfect for day tripping cruise ship passengers in the middle of a shopping spree. I intend to go back there next time I want a light lunch, good drinks and friendly atmosphere....
