As a repeat visitor to St. Thomas, I found my first stay at Hotel 1829 to be warm and welcoming. The new owners, Mark and Jess, purchased the property a little over a year ago and have lovingly worked to restore the hotel to its former glory. I had the unique opportunity to get a sneak peek of the property shortly after they purchased it last summer when I stayed at their other property, At Home in the Tropics. I am amazed at how much has been restored over the past year. From the hand-painted tiles to modern upgrades like the luxurious rain showers and powerful AC units, Mark and Jess are maintaining the historic charm while seamlessly integrating modern comforts.
The first half of my trip was a girls' getaway. We enjoyed cocktails at the bar and relaxed by the pool. Currently, the restaurant offers a delicious Sunday brunch on the front patio. I recommend making a reservation when you check in to ensure you don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a classic brunch with a Caribbean flair. The front desk staff, Kellie and Melissa, were incredibly helpful with their beach and restaurant suggestions. They were genuinely excited to share all that St. Thomas has to offer.
The second half of my trip was an anniversary getaway with my husband. Mark and Jess invited us to an exclusive private dining experience, featuring a three-course tasting dinner for their soon-to-be restaurant opening. We enjoyed roasted Brussels sprouts with a spicy Caribbean sauce, surf and turf (and surf and surf for me), and a delectable tamarind crème brûlée. The experience made us feel celebrated and valued as repeat guests.
The hotel is located just a short walk from downtown Charlotte Amalie, where you can explore local shops or watch the cruise ships come in from the waterfront. Without a doubt, I’m already looking forward to next summer and my stay...

Read more1829 hotel really saved my family in a difficult situation! Our evening flight was canceled and we had no place to stay. We were calling around everywhere and thankfully I found the 1829 hotel. The owner Jessica was extremely professional, friendly and helpful. We Took her up on the opportunity to stay there. She offered to book our taxis, gave us recommendations of where to eat, and just went above and beyond in every way. the hotel itself was very charming and in a neighborhood where we could walk to restaurants at night time. The hotel is full of history annd personality, and the owners can tell you all about it. If you want something charming, convenient and a little bit out of the box, 1829 is a great choice. The room was very comfortable for myself and three grown daughters. The only negative thing I have to say is that my shower was cold. Not sure if that’s normal or not. if I were staying in St. Thomas again I would Absolutely Stay there. We got two other people booked in the same hotel and they were delighted with their experience also.|three other people on the flight were able to stay at their other property and they also said that was very charming and they had a good experience.|Jessica , my family and I can’t thank you enough for a great experience that evening! It ended up being a great night with new...
