⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Had dinner at Universal Joint in downtown Chattanooga and loved everything about it! We went on a Thursday around 5:30 and were seated right away. Our waitress was super friendly and attentive, and the food came out fast. I had the mushroom Swiss burger and it was delicious, but the real star of the night was the tater tots—crispy, golden perfection. My daughter raved about the fish tacos, and the whole table couldn’t stop talking about how good everything was. The drink menu has some great options, and the atmosphere is awesome—set in what looks like an old gas/service station with cool, laid-back vibes. It’s the kind of place that feels casual but still special, whether you’re out with friends, family, or on a casual date night. Prices are really reasonable for the quality, too. If you’re in Chattanooga, this spot is a must-try. Be sure to check out the patio when the weather’s nice—it’s the perfect hangout spot. 📸 Check out my photos if you’re thinking of going, and give them a like to help me build up my following!

Played trivia finals here on Saturday. Was my first visit. Definitely a unique venue with a lot of the service station feel to it. Vintage signs and car doors on the wall, oil drums and original air hoses left on the ceiling. Has a great outdoor seating area, part of which is covered, where I saw plenty of dogs wandering around over the course of the afternoon. I also saw people playing cornhole. The garage doors were open to the sun and fresh air making the inside seating feel like outside. I ordered the smokehouse burger, which was good, but came a little overcooked (ordered med-rare, came med to med-well) and without the BBQ sauce, which was remedied. The burger was big and tasty, and the fries were handcut and very good. The soft drinks and tea come in huge glasses so you don't have to request refills every few minutes. Though they were busy, service was pretty good and food came out quickly. They also have an extensive drink menu, though I didn't drink. I'd definitely go back for food and drinks again.

My husband and I recently discovered Universal Joint, a restaurant with a dog-friendly patio that we enjoyed visiting. The food was great and the service was excellent. As soon as we were seated, the dogs were given a big bucket of water, which we appreciated. We ordered some cold draft beer from a fantastic selection on tap, and the Avocado Fiesta appetizer which was served with tortilla chips. Everything was very fresh. Bob ordered the Texas Cheesesteak Melt, which he thoroughly enjoyed, while I opted for the Southwest Chicken Quesadilla. I found the quesadilla to be a perfect balance of fresh ingredients, and it wasn't runny like some quesadillas I've had in the past. The view from the patio was really nice too. We will certainly be returning to this restaurant. Update: We have been to this restaurant several times now, and each time we have thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Worst service. I waited patiently for anyone to notice me at the bar for my 1st beer, then they did last call at midnight when they're open til 1am, and being a bartender myself I know they will call it early but an hour early was surprising but I went to the bar to get 1 more beer & waited 20 mins before I walked over to where the male bartender was dealing with a large group trying to pay their tabs & again waited patiently for 5 or 6 minutes until I asked him politely if I could get one more beer. He took my order but must've forgot, and again gave him the benefit of the doubt since he was getting the same large crowd their last call orders and they were probably tabbing out as well. Finally another female bartender walked right past me, i had moved back to my original spot that I was waiting before. I finally got her attention and she refused to serve me bc she said that last call had ended. I made her aware that I had been waiting to order a beer for 20-25 mins but couldn't get service. She rudely asked what I wanted & I finally got my 2nd beer which wasn't what I ordered so I just paid and left. There were several others (3 to be exact) that had been waiting awhile to order that were ignored as well & after I received my beer, the one I didn't order, she rudely slammed it down and walked off & never asked the others waiting if they needed anything so I'm not sure if they even got to order another beer. So last call was at midnight & it was 12:45 by the time I was served my beer (the one I didn't order) so I took a few sips then left bc by then they were closing. I've never, even in the crappiest bars I've been to, had to wait 45 mins tho get a beer or treated as rudely as I was there. . I still tipped since I work in the industry but never had I been so ignored and treated so rudely. I won't be returning and will pass on my experience there to my friends, most of whom work in the industry & tip very well, how horrible the service is there. You night consider hiring nicer bartenders who knows the difference between...

The food was probably better here back when it was a gas station / garage. And the service, as well.

I ordered a chicken burrito and asked the server if they had fresh jalapenos. She said yes, so I asked her to bring me one chopped up. This burrito is served with a meat of your choice, black beans, rice, pico de gallo, lettuce, and served with cheese sauce and chips and salsa.

When the burrito comes out, it includes a side of sliced pickled jalapenos. So I asked the server if they have fresh jalapenos in the back, and this time she tells me no. Lol. The salsa was way too full of garlic. The burrito was filled with boring, plain, white rice and romaine lettuce. Who in their right mind puts either of those in a burrito? Oh, and I also ask the server to bring me extra pico de gallo once I find out all they have is pickled jalapenos, and she tells me they don't have pico de gallo. Even though it says it right on the menu as an ingredient in the burrito.

So then, flash forward to the point where everyone in my party is about halfway done with their meal, and the server still has not checked back with us. I had to ask another server to send her over so I can get more salsa and extra cheese sauce, as those were the only two things on my plate which had any flavor.

I don't get the impression to cook is an experienced professional, nor do I feel that was the case with my server. Definitely will not be back to eat at...

I had the opportunity to have lunch at this restaurant for the first time today, September 30, 2025, and I chose to sit outside to enjoy the pleasant weather. Makayla was my waitress; however, I didn’t catch her name until I inquired. She took my order promptly, but it was someone else who brought out my meal, simply setting it down without a word before disappearing.

I found myself waiting quite a while for my server to return and see if I needed anything. By that time, I had already eaten one of my fish tacos, while my waffle fries were disappointingly served cold. Had Makayla come out to check on me after my meal was delivered, I could have savored those fries alongside my tacos. Instead, by the time she finally checked in on me, I was ready to leave.

I ordered the blackened fish tacos paired with sweet potato waffle fries, and I must say, the fish tacos were a highlight—perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. To me, the foundation of a great dining experience lies in the quality of service, and unfortunately, that’s where this visit fell short. I didn’t feel the level of attention I expected from the staff, which dampened the overall experience. Would I eat here again? Absolutely, but I hope for a much more attentive...
