POC Beware My husband and I went to Crested Butte for our honeymoon. We were amped up for a fun trip! But this came to a halt when our first morning there we decided to go out for breakfast. We chose the paradise cafe. We walked in the restaurant and stood by the hostess station- for 15 min. We watched the hostess walk by us several times assuming she was just that busy even though several seats were open. You just never know with Covid-19 how close they are seating people, so we were patient. At about the 15 min mark, the hostess stated "I'll be with you in a moment" and we both said ok. She continued moving about around us without ever giving us that polite customer service smile you receive when they know you've been waiting a while. No worries! We're on our honeymoon and completely chill! My husband picked it up first, even though I've gone through it a million times. I was on my honeymoon! It wasn't until the next WHITE couple walked in behind us. They walked right up to the hostess station- where we were lingering. She immediately walked up to the hostess station, grabbed a pen (or pencil, whatever) and said "good morning, just the two of you?!" My husband politely said excuse me, and asked if there was a problem- to which he was completely ignored. He asked a few more times in multiple polite tones, with no response.. It was disgusting. The feeling of subtle yet, blatant rasicim. It was obvious at that time that- because I am black- we weren't being seated! The level of joy, and politeness she displayed to the couple that walked in after us was like spitting in our face! She literally asked them these questions while we were right next to them. I will NEVER return to this restaurant and will warn any POC and our allies about this service. It was subtlety blatant and overall disgusting. This isn't the 1950's, and we are people too! So disappointed in this restaurant, and if the owners don't believe in this kind of treatment they need to take a good, hard look at their employees and their representation of this restaurant. Because as it stands today- I will forever tell people to avoid not only this city, but this particular...
Read moreI was looking forward to eating at Paradise Cafe. It was a toss up between Paradise Cafe and another nearby cafe. We were warmly greeted by the lovely hostess and seated within 10 minutes. Not bad for a packed place. The menu had a variety of options and the price was not bad. Unfortunately, the above were the only good part of our quick visit.
Out of all the travels and places I've been to, the food and service was ok. I was looking forward to, if not homemade or made from scratch, at least a good tasty breakfast. It startwd with a glass that was dirty (lipstick smudge on several places of the cup.) I ordered breakfast. The eggs and hashbrowns were fine. You shouldn't go wrong with making those. However, the sausage and biscuits were not good at all to put it nicely. The biscuit was cold, the gravy was clumpy, luke warm, and VERY salty. I could force myself to eat it, but after the second bite, I stopped. I informed the waitress that my food was salty, that I couldn't eat it, and asked if they happen to have another batch because it was too salty to eat. Her response? "No, I do not believe we so." The Engliah muffin was burnt, so she was asked if we could get one lightly toasted. Again, our request was not met. We received an English muffin that was barely warm and not even toasted with some butter in the center. The photo shows it was not even lightly toasted. It may have only been warmed because the butter was thoroughly melted. When she came back by she apologized for the biscuits and gravy... but failed to offer an alternative to fix the problem. I'm not one to ask for a free me, but I did withheld my...
Read moreThe food here is fair, although I've only gone for breakfast. I do feel though that the menu is kind of large for a place as small as it is. What i I do enjoy is the full bar where they mix a lot of different drinks I've had so far the white Russian and butter rum and they're okay-ish. The design of the place feels uninspired, they have a clean look it just doesn't look like a lot of attention has been poured into it especially considering that a big portion of the art they hang up looks like they're pieces from a local artist that are for sale. Overall it's a reasonable place for breakfast if you want something light, traditional, and easy to get in and get out. I will say the prices are a bit steep considering the lack of inspiration behind the food and sometimes the quality for $55 my wife and I got French toast (3 slices) a hash brown plate with what seemed like slightly undercooked veggies a lavender latte that tasted not very lavender like and a white Russian. So not the biggest portions not the best quality and a little underwhelming for a Saturday...
