I was so excited to try this place, I’ve have heard good things. Well I am not sure if they were all lies because when I visited on a Saturday. It was far below good, or even decent. We arrived a little after 6p, I got the 3 meats to try the variety (brisket, sausage, turkey and sides of potato salad and Mac). I should’ve been worried when the person cutting the meats didn’t ask if I wanted lean or fatty brisket like all the great bbq places I’ve been to. Then waited about several minutes to get bbq sauce and then finally check out. The two people at the register where on the phone, then the first person off the phone looked at us and walked away. She finally came back and charged us. Already not a great impression. I then go over to get a sweet tea (from the container labeled SWEET TEA), first sip I know it was not sweetened at all. I went back to my seat to eat thinking they’d make more sweet tea or add the sugar. I start eating, I try all 3 meats without sauce. All 3 meats are cold, then I try the sauces both which are cold. The sauces being cold is weird since they are literally stored in a warming container. The meats being cold is inexcusable for how much this place charges for their “BBQ.” The best part of the food was the potato salad, the Mac was lukewarm noodles with a thin and tasteless “cheese sauce.” Back to the sweet tea, I finished my first glass of unsweetened tea, then went back up to get a refill thinking it has been rectified. I taste it and again it’s not sweet in any sense of the word. I asked one of the workers and he said “oh yeah I’m about to make it sweet.” Spoiler: it did not happen. 50 min after my first glass I went up again to see if they finally fixed it, I tasted it yet again and still not sweet. The person I assume was the manager asked if I needed help and I told him, they do not have sweet tea. He looked at me like I was crazy and pointed to the container and said it’s right there. I then told him it’s not been sweetened, he then proceeds to grab a cup and taste it and then is like oh yeah that’s not sweet. Excuse me, did you think I’m crazy or don’t know what sweet tea tastes like??? Then he actioned one of the team to make it sweet. Now 55 min later after I am finished with my cold tasteless meal I FINALLY got sweet tea. It was 60% empty in the place and the staff was not on top of anything, the manager clearly was not on quality control, temp control, or anything really. I would not recommend this place. Do yourself a favor and eat at Pecan Lodge or really...
Read moreI came here after a conversation with the manager regarding some disgusting events that transpired at the Addison location. My wife and I ordered ribs, burnt ends and turkey. When we were getting our sides I asked for collard greens, they were low. So the kid went to the back to get a new tub of collards. He used a dirty, filthy rag to transport this tub to the line. I understand the use of the rag as long as it doesn’t touch food but it did touch my plate and touched the collard greens inside the tub they serve them in. To make this worse and a genuine health concern concern, he used the same hand that had his glove on to reach into the pickle containers to serve our pickles. At this point I was turned off but had also driven from Addison so we decided to eat. The food was cold and mediocre. Definitely not worth the exorbitant amount of money we spent not risking the health concerns but yes I did stay and eat. As I was eating I noticed the sign on the wall soliciting 5 star Google reviews for a free cookie.
Edit in response to owner: Michael, with all due respect, food born illness is a real thing. You are basically trying to tell me and the public that it’s ok for things to fall between the cracks. You are trying to defend that being sloppy is ok and that it’s normal. I’ve been in the restaurant industry for 20 plus years. I would be surprised if you even know how to prep a sanitary sink, how much bleach to put in mop water, the internal temperature for food to sit at and how to avoid bacteria growing on food. For the price you’re charging for food you should really consider investing in some food handling courses for your employees and better training. You are putting the health of the public at risk by allowing employees to reach into pickle containers with contaminated objects and to allow food to be cross contaminated with foreign objects. If this doesn’t speak to you as a health concern the...
Read moreThe food was, for the most part, really great. Burnt ends were absolutely amazing. Brisket was really good. But the poor service will keep me from going back.
Went for lunch with a group of 13 people. There were 3 people working behind the counter - 1 person serving meat, 1 serving sides, and another handling drinks and the cash register. Two people in our party each ordered a beer and paid for them. 15 minutes later, they still didn't have their beers. Another member of our party went to ask the manager if someone could get the beer, since they had taken money for them. He rolled his eyes, angrily took off his gloves, and went to the bar to grab two bottles of Shiner, which he then SLAMMED down on our table.
When I got to the cash register and tried to order a beer, to their credit, they wouldn't let me, saying that no one was scheduled to work the bar today.
There were at least 2 other people in the back. One was washing dishes. Not sure where the other person disappeared to. It seemed like washing dishes could wait and the dishwasher would have been a big help behind the line.
There was a line of people at least 12 deep almost the entire hour we were there. It didn't seem like this was an anomaly. Management needs to figure out how to better staff this place on a busy day. And they also need to figure out how to roll up their sleeves and have a better attitude when they're in the weeds.
Edit: Super stand-up, almost immediate response from the owner means I'll be giving Oak'd another try. (I mean, I've been dreaming about the burnt ends, so I'm glad I get...
