Note, this is valet only and business casual attire, though women could get away with a nice pair of jeans and a blouse.
I came here the other evening with my department for a vendor sponsored presentation. First impression - complimentary valet parking, valet didn't open my door and didn't even greet me, just handed me a ticket and asked my name. When I walked in, I had to wait several minutes for the host to get off the phone in order to inquire where my party of 12 was seated.
Once I was seated in the private dining area, the waitress asked what I wanted to drink. I asked if there was a drink menu. She said no, there wasn't one at the table and seemed to be put off as I looked at her for a moment and finally had to request one. It was almost comical how quickly she whisked it away once I had chosen what to order. Other people at the table were wanting to try other cocktails and wines and I finally had to ask that she leave the menu with me and I placed my phone on it. I was not alone in my observation that she clearly didn't care about service with a smile. She performed her duties with mechanical function, with absolutely no charisma or non-essential communication.
For a "fine dining" establishment, the aesthetic decor was visible, but the service and food fell severely flat. Calamari was chewy, crab cake and meatball appetizers were good, but nothing to write home about. The shrimp cocktail was good; the shrimp was large perfectly cooked and the cocktail had a good bite to it. The lobster bisque was a highlight, creamy and flavorful with a good portion of lobster morsels.
Though it was decent, my medium rare filet came out more medium than rare. The parmesan mashed potatoes weren't creamy or buttery and needed salt and actual parmesan. The asparagus was crisp and cooked well. No salt or pepper grinders on the table. When requested, I was given a salt and pepper dish.
For dessert, I chose the chocolate malt cake with supposed warm chocolate sauce. It was a stale and disappointing end to an already lack luster dinner. The carrot cake others had ordered with candied pecans and butterscotch looked much more appealing.
Oh, that spicy blackberry margarita that I decided on? The spicy should be completely removed from it. It had good flavor but absolutely no hint of habanero.
Overall, this meal at Truluck's was a forgetable experience. I'd honestly pass on going to another location...
Read moreLooking for a real cut above seafood restaurant in Dallas? We’ll this is itI I thankfully decided to choose Trulucks for my birthday dinner. As it turned out, this dining experience was one for the books. First off, the restaurant itself is a marvel of architecture with great interior design. There were beautiful fresh cut flowers everywhere, including our table. These people get service like very few. Examples? The moment we entered, we were greeted by a smiling host genuinely wishing me happy birthday who made my wife and I feel extremely welcome. We were then gently escorted to the second floor where were shown our lovely booth where we would be for the next hour and a half. Our waiter Riley deftly did the honors with aplomb. After examining the menu. I had some questions. He ended up providing thoughtful suggestions to choose the well-known seafood specialities of the house so my birthday would be even more complete. To begin, I opted for a Sonoma Greens salad with spicy pecans and goat cheese, as well as a half dozen oysters on the half-shell. After the first bite, I knew we were in for something special. In order to get the best of both worlds, Riley had rightly recommended half of the prime king crab claw, as well as a medium sized lobster tail. The meat melted in my mouth with divine delicacy, in-between devouring shared vegetable pan-seared broccoli-fantastic!
My wife’s Trout Amandine dish was equally delectable and delicious. She was surprised by the rather large portion accompanied by Parmesan mashed potatoes. Then another surprise awaited us in the form of a rare dessert-Baked Alaska that they prepared for us. Furthermore, it was on the house. I must say it was the best I’ve ever had.
Not only did Truluck’s and it’s staff exceed my expectations, but it turned out to be the the most enjoyable birthday dinner I’ve ever had. I will be definitely be recommending Trulucks to all my friends and will absolutely return. It was worth every penny. In my opinion, it has the best customer service in the business. Both my wife and I were very impressed by how passionate the restaurant servers and help were. As a hard-core foodie and someone who makes a living in the Customer Service business, I can honestly say other Dallas restaurants could learn a thing or two about how to truly satisfy your customers. Shout out again to our...
Read moreMy husband and I went there for the first time for a late Valentines lunch. It was absolutely wonderful and we would give it a clear five 5️⃣. The food, ambience, and service was outstanding and our waiter, Juan, was magnificent! We each had some of their crab claws for an appetizer and really enjoyed them. We were not crazy about the mustard sauce, but we asked for some clarified butter and as you can see from one of the pictures, they nicely brought it to us. We loved the warm hand towels they brought afterwards and the light scent with them was very nice as well. My husband had a filet mignon and would clearly give it a five 5️⃣. He said it was wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked. I had the salmon with crab and shrimp over mashed potatoes, and it tasted absolutely divine to me. I asked him to put the jalapeño Bernaise on the side, and I enjoyed it with it, but I’m not sure I didn’t like it better without it. Whatever the case, it was clearly delicious! My husband had their mac & cheese with crab on the top and he said that was absolutely delicious also. He would give the mac & cheese side, a clear five 5️⃣. We both had some of the bread and he would give it a five. I was not crazy about the Parmesan on the top, but he was, however, it tasted very fresh and I enjoyed dining on it with my main entrée. We both splurged and each had a dessert. I ordered the petite carrot cake with butterscotch sauce and it was DELICIOUS! I’m not even a carrot cake lover, and I loved that. I was shocked at the size of it, since I ordered a petite size, but it was very yummy! My husband had the cream brûlée and he thought it was wonderful. He said it was creamy with a good vanilla flavor and was the epitome of a good crème brûlée. 🍮 I also must brag on their water, it was absolutely wonderful! I have to be careful with making sure that I drink filtered water and this clearly surpassed any expectation I had. It was wonderful and was the only thing I even drank. My husband had a French press coffee with his dessert and he enjoyed that too.
The ambience of the restaurant was absolutely wonderful, although it was during lunchtime. We would clearly go again and recommend this for a special evening. I think we will drive there again sometime and embrace another lovely...
