ATTENTION: Charlie’s Denver has been under “NEW” management for at least the last 6 - 9 months. But if you want to visit Charlie’s Denver located at 900 E. Colfax in Denver, Colorado and you think that your valuables & your person, will be safe and protected, THINK AGAIN!!
On 4/27/15, After 12:00am I was viciously assaulted by an unknown assailant still at large resulting in a shattered hip & medical expenses over $100,000. Another Charlie’s customer (the assailant), was harassing me for something I had nothing to do with & I decided to leave immediately. I was blind sighted by the harassing assailing assailant. Immediately after assault, I alerted the unexpressive doorman & bartender of my injury. I was unable to stand due to broken shattered hip. Instead of an ambulance that I requested, Charlie’s called police and me and my shattered hip were shoved into a police car. The Denver Police detective Dectective Sides said that one week after the assault, Charlie’s had lost security footage May 6. Charlie’s initial response of not calling an ambulance for a tragic injury on their property is deplorable. The vicious assailant would have been apprehended and charged with assault if Charlies had protected its customers with correct basic security & security footage protocol standards practiced across the USA bar & night club industry.
Charlie’s new management does not keep their customers safe as they are obligated to do. Security standards in the Nightclub and bar industry is retain all "video" for at least 30 days. If incident occurs, copy onto a DVD disc and retaining it for at least a year.
In conclusion to this review, keep the following crime statistics in mind. This is according to Denver Police Department 2015 crime maps. Charlie’s Denver at 900 E. Colfax ALONE has had more VIOLENT ASSAULT and THEFTS/LACENCY crimes reported than 14 of the 16 other Denver GLBT night clubs/lounges COMBINED. Charlie’s crime rate surpasses 87.5 percent of all Denver GLBT bars. This is just in the last 6 months per the Denver Police Crime Map website as of 6/15/2015. Even over the past 36 months from June 2012 to June 2015, Charlie’s alone had more ASSAULTS & THEFTS/LARGENCY than 13 of 16 Denver’s other GLBT establishments combined.
So if you decide to visit Charlie’s, keep in mind it may be safer to visit other establishments for quality drag shows, dancing, and quality refreshments. YOUR PHYSICAL QUALITY OF LIFE JUST MIGHT...

I was harassed and escorted out this nasty, diseased filled bar by 3 cops and 3 staff members (in cowboy hats), not because I did anything wrong, but because I was targeted because I am a black woman. They claimed my purse was too big (I have NEVER in life been asked to pay to check a purse). I explained to both the terrible looking man in drag and the short rude Mexican staff member that I DID NOT feel comfortable checking my purse, however, they could look inside! I had absolutely nothing to hide. I did have my passport, birth certificate, mail, and other sensitive information in my purse BECAUSE I am moving and had forgotten it was with me. They were letting other people in with purses just as big as mine. He had the audacity to tell me to pay to check my bag with some hillbilly looking guy, AT MY OWN RISK. I told him that I would leave, but I had just bought a drink and I was going to finish it. They also asked me (and no one else) for ID AGAIN. Clearly the dramatic bartender was doing that to get my name for the cops. However, he made up some story about all the underage drinking there. The Mexican staff stood behind me like I was a criminal, then called the cops. I was in shock. Then another extremely rude staff member (white, extremely over the top) comes up to be very violently. He had bad breath and was spitting in my face and yelling "get out now!" I explained that I would gladly leave AFTER I finished the drink I just purchased. The cops didn't say a word. They looked disgusted that all of this was happening over a medium sized purse. How am I not supposed to believe I was targeted because I'm a black woman when I was treated differently than others? Were they assuming I had a gun? Drugs? I wasn't even drunk! I was totally sober and greatly disrespected.
The place looks disease ridden. It's absolutely disgusting. Poop in the toilets, no toilet paper. They treat their guests like animals.
They charge a cover and MAKE WOMEN pay more of a cover simply because we have vaginas and carry purses.
The music sucks and so does the drinks.
My suggestion: this place isn't worth your time. Try X Bar or even Wrangler. I have never had a bad...

I have been going to Denver every year for the last seven years for Pride and my birthday (I am from out of state). This year was the first year my friends and I decided to go to Charlie’s and we will never return! There are many reasons why.
First, it was about 110 degrees inside, no air conditioning, fans, or anything of that sort to keep the environment cool.
Second, the women’s bathroom was extremely dirty. No tissue paper, no paper towels, and one of the toilets was backed up and had feces, urine, and tissue in it clogging it. The men’s restroom wasn’t any better.
Third, I went on a Saturday night where Svedka Vodka is $3.00 a shot. When I got my tab towards the end of the night, it was almost $70.00 and I only purchased 12 shots for my friends and I. Do the math, my tab should have only been $36.00. I asked one of the bartenders why it cost so much when shots were only $3.00. He replied by saying, “We aren’t doing $3.00 shots tonight.” Bartenders were also very rude! There was one very nice bartender and after getting one round with him, he disappeared.
Fourth, I went up on one of my rounds to the same well I went to every time (directly right of the stage), and no one assisted me. I stood there trying to get the attention of one of the bartenders for 5 to 10 minutes. Every time, the bartenders walked passed me, looked at me, and said nothing.
Fifth, there was open seating for the show after a certain time of the night. My friends and I sat down in the open seating area only to be told by a VERY rude individual with a cowboy hat on that we were in someone’s seats. These individuals who sat in the seats we were in only stayed for a few of the acts then got up and left, meanwhile, yet ANOTHER set of individuals sat in those seats and were not told anything.
There were MANY other little events which took place and as you can see, this list is very long as is. My advice: DO NOT ATTEND CHARLIE’S, it’s a waste of time,...
