I don't understand how this place has such high reviews. Growing up near Memphis and KC at separate points in my life, I can sure as hell say that this BBQ I wouldn't even serve to my dog.
Edited for posterity and the response I got from the establishment:
I'll bump you up to a 2 star, because I didn't expect such a nice reply to my uncouth review.
Burnt ends and pulled pork are my go to's, one of the only criteria that you have to meet with these is that they are not dry or be pre-sauced (dry burnt ends to me shouldn't even be possible). When I went to your joint, the pulled pork I was served was not even palatable. It was drier than upper high plains you serve it on top of. If I have to use sauce on BBQ, then you're doing it horribly wrong. I wasn't even going to mention it, but the sides I had were bland on top of it. and why do your "baked" beans have the consistency of soup?
The only place I have any shred of love for out here is Georgia Boys up in Longmont. Oh and since you asked, here's a small list of places I've tried in and around MO: Wabash, OKJ's, Gates, AB's, Buckingham's, Whole Hog, X-town, Smokin' D's.
Yeah not all Q is the same, and I'm aware there's "multiple styles", but there's still plenty bad BBQ to be had, and I've had plenty of people like yourself tell me they were from Memphis, KC, or Texas like it somehow made their food magically good.
Take pride...
Read moreI was visiting from Florida and read several great reviews about this place. It was 6:30pm on a Friday afternoon and the upstairs bar and dining room was already closed, even though it was advertised to be open until 8pm. They were out of two of the meats (Pork shoulder and wings) and while the food was given to us quickly (before we even had a chance to pay), it was barely warm and clearly prepared earlier just sitting in the back under the warmer. The food itself was nothing really to rave about. The brisket and links were decent, but I was very disappointed in how dry the rib tips were. Also the staff were already talking about closing half of the downstairs room with still an hour left of service to go.
Overall I would like to say a couple things. If you are going to advertise your establishment as open until 8pm, don't start closing down at 6:15-6:30pm. Especially on a Friday afternoon when you are more likely to have business, but if you must, maybe closing at 6pm might be better to avoid running out of menu items. It's been a long time since I've been at a BBQ establishment that has run out of pork shoulder or wings before the end of service, truly remarkable.
Sadly, we will most likely not be returning. I wish Yazoo the best in improving its business and operational hours.

Read moreWalked in on a Friday around happy hour time and the place was deserted. Two guys at the counter who could not have cared less that we were there. I knew there was a rooftop deck so I asked if we could order up there or did we have to order downstairs. One kid just shrugged while the other kid said it didn't matter.
So up we went....not really knowing if we could order or not. Once we were upstairs, though, it was like a different place. Pretty sketchy bar but the outdoor seating is cool. Lots of big TVs so we watched the news for awhile. Finally, we ordered from the bartender, who was awesome. I think his name was Mike. We both ordered the 2 meat plate with hash brown casserole. I got the pulled pork and the brisket. The pulled pork was fairly dry and bland but damn, that brisket was the best. Next time, I will just order a big plate of brisket. And although the casserole had a few too many chunks of onions in it, it was cheesy and delicious, just like my mom makes.
Lots of good sauces to pick from....I mainly used the sweet but I tried them all.
My advice to you is to skip the downstairs part of the restaurant and head directly to the rooftop for some good BBQ and nice service. My advice to Yazoo's is to fire those two bozos you have working at the counter. You...
