I’ve been a customer since the very first day they opened. Great food and friendly front staff. However, if you are a woman, especially a professional woman that travels for business; do not go to this restaurant. You will be treated rudely and with contempt. Very different from how they treat their male customers or families. Females wearing military clothing hopefully fair better. I travel the state on business, often by myself. I am friendly and polite, always smile and say please and thank you. The staff walk around asking customers if they would like their drink refilled, extra cornbread, how’s the meal, do you need a to-go container. In all my visits, included last week, I have never had 1 employee offer me anything. The mostly female staff stops at every table all around me that have a man at the table, but they ignore me. Outrageous! There was single man, one table away from me, the employee made several stops at his table, bypassing me. I guess they hope men will tip?? Finally, I had enough and asked to speak to a manager. They were having a manager meeting and the General Manager was there. I started the conversation with compliments, and then shared what I just experienced. He said it was my fault!! What!!! He ignored me and when he walked back to his table, he rolled his eyes; oh no you didn’t! The GM never asked any staff to assist me. There are hundreds of eating establishments in Dover; go anywhere else. Back to opening day at Mission, received 3 slices of brisket. Noticed other customers had plates with much larger portions. Thought they would want to make a good impression, but they may have first day glitches. Approached manager and she implied that I was trying to get free food!! Just wanted what I paid for. Manager very begrudgingly gave me a couple more slices. Few minutes later, same manager was walking around with a tray of plates of meat, saying to male customers, “Noticed you didn’t get the proper amount of pork, brisket. Kitchen is supposed to weigh, so here is the rest of your meal.” WOW! Did the manager apologize to me, no....
Read moreImmediately upon walking up to the counter I shared it was my first time eating there and we'd need a minute to order. The young lady behind the counter was training another young lady and she ran around the counter and stood next to my daughter and me as if to put herself in my shoes. She welcomed us and thanked us for coming in, then began going through the menu above the counter with us to ensure we could make an informed order rather than stumble through our order and get something just to allow the people behind us to order.
Once we received our meal and ate about half of it because it was so good and filling, the young lady and her trainee came over to our booth with 2 complimentary desserts and a hand written note, welcoming us again.
Mission BBQ has set the customer service standard by which all other restaurants and places who provide services should aspire to achieve.
I did not get her name but in an attempt to ensure the right person receives the accolades, I will describe her. She was a black woman with short hair or neatly tucked in her cap with a tiny build. She was training a taller black woman with long hair. We ate there on Thursday evening, September 21st.
This girl is going places and I believe the sky is the only limit for her!
We will return again and again to Mission BBQ for outstanding BBQ and service!
On a side note, we moved to Delaware from Kansas City which is world-renowned for excellent BBQ. I had lived in the KC Metro for the better part of 45 years and have eaten at just about every BBQ restaurant in KC, and Mission BBQ is the best...
Read moreMy husband and I had our wedding catered by the Dover mission bbq this past November and they exceeded my expectations throughout the entire process! Their prices per head are the most affordable, even compared to other bbq places, and the quality and quantity of food was outstanding. Communication with their wedding/catering directors before the wedding was excellent and they could answer any questions I had and also cater to any special requests I had. As we approached the couple days before, they confirmed all the details with me and made me feel like I wouldn’t have to worry about a thing on the day of - which was 100% true! Even when we had a couple impromptu changes of schedule during the reception they were unphased and on top of it. The crew that was there on the day of the wedding included the kindest and most professional staff members who truly did cater to our every need and made the reception go smoothly. Our plates were even made for us and hot and ready when the rest of our guests went to the buffet line so we didn’t have to worry about when we would get to eat our food. If I could give the Dover wedding/catering team 10 stars, I would - book them for your...
