Had some gift cards for 301...worst customer service I've ever had in Duluth! We were the only ones in the restaurant and it still took a very long time...I finally went up and asked the waitress who was chatting with other employees if we could have our soup and salad before the meal...We ordered a turkey and a chicken type sandwich to share...we asked for a few things on the side, one of which was some weird chili jelly...when they arrived one of them was pink...I'm sorry, but I won't eat pink chicken or turkey...the other one had the chili jelly on it! I asked the waitress where the stuff was that was supposed to be on the side and she had no idea...when we let her know one was raw and one had the thing that should have been on the side on the sandwich, she didn't really seem to care...just said
Read moreWe were staying at the Holiday down the street and it was a much needed relief to be surrounded by tall mahogany walls, a quiet fire, and wonderful seats in the beautiful Sheraton Hotel. I am a pianist so I appreciate good posture when eating and it was such a relief not to sit so high or sit so low. Service was very friendly and she even suggested places where to go on our Duluth getaway. The lobby area and the rest of the restaurant was welcoming and warm.
Food was very good. We began with the Turkey Soup where warm Sourdough buns were served. We both had the Walleye dinner. It was presented very beautifully and the Walleye was the best Walleye I have tasted in my life and I am a Minnesota-native. We ended with a locally grown Blueberry Apple Cobbler with ice cream. Accompanying our meal was a bottle of Italian Merlot-Cabernet, which complimented the Walleye almost too perfectly.
Yes I agree one could find better dining experiences in Duluth however for the price and for the quality of food, it was quite exceptional! Total of 4 cocktails, a bottle of wine, and 3 courses for each equaling about a little over $100. Not bad at all I would...
Read moreWe went for the Murder on the Orient Express dinner special they had running in conjunction with the playhouse production last night. The dinner was 4 courses, they were tiny, not filling at all. I went to bed hungry. The third course was duck. Normally I love duck but they overcooked it. The waiter didn’t ask us for a temperature preference they just brought it out well done. Gross. The duck was on top of a white bean purée which basically melted into the sauce and provided nothing substantial. So the overcooked, very tough duck was swimming in a bed of thin bean soup that you couldn’t get onto a fork. Sweet potatoes would have been a better choice. On top of it all, the dinner was $65 per person !! which they didn’t advertise on the menu and the waiter didn’t mention. I’m not cheap and I don’t mind spending money on a quality dinner but $65 for this is a ripoff! Duluth trying to be fancy and failing miserably…wanna be pretentious, yuck. I will say the dessert was very tasty but again small portioned. It also should have included an espresso or dessert drink/coffee option. I won’t be...
