My husband and I stopped by Turtle Lake Refuge for lunch today. We were driving through Durango, looking for a plant-based restaurant to eat at. Our experience couldn't have been better! We were sat at an outside table under a tree. The staff members were sweet and attentive. We were given green drinks to start, then a plate of mixed, sprouted greens with soup and vegan lasagna. Every bite was delicious! Then we were given apple vanilla ice cream on top of apple cobbler. It was so good I wanted to ask for more, but I didn't want to appear gluttonous.
It turned out that it was the founder's birthday, and as we ate, she was serenaded in birthday songs, around the corner from our table.

I honestly don't know exactly what we ate, but it was all vegetables and micro greens, and I would eat it everyday if I could. I ventured in with a couple friends for lunch last week and it was like stepping back (refreshingly) into my youth living in a teepee in the Santa Cruz Mountains and hanging out with the tribe in the alternative eateries in Felton and Boulder Creek. Very clean, very laid back, quiet with wonderful, plant-based delights. Where else but here can you get a 4 course meal for $15?
