The Soup Pot — Restaurant in Fairplay

We’ve made the Soup Pot our go-to because the food is really good and it’s a convenient option when needed. The pricing is on par for what you’d expect.

The one deterrent that is keeping us away in the future is that the owner is very passive aggressive and borderline rude. We try to alternate going in just so we don’t have to be the one dealing with her. If you don’t order following the exact steps she wants you’ll get scolded (we’ve seen it happen to others too). For instance, don’t wait until you get to the register to order a drink.

I’d recommend this place for to-go orders and try to be as prescriptive as possible when placing your order. If you want friendly service as part of your dining experience, try to get someone else on the team or go to the Robin’s Nest next door where the owner shows sincere gratitude for your business. I get that none of us really like dealing with the general public, and business is tough these days, but a “hi how are you” goes a longer way...

In general a very nice place. Not big - maybe 5 or 6 tables. It’s VERY well organized which I highly appreciate. Signs everywhere helping you out. Prices were reasonable. The food was quite good. Both my wife and I thought it was all very good. Quick and efficient too.

There was however one minor nit. I ordered the “Crab Louie”. When it arrived it was clearly fake krab. I took it back to the counter and asked if it was fake crab. The order taker said that yes it was. I pointed out the menu board that said, “Crab”. She said that my receipt was spelled “Krab.” Well maybe so, but that was only after I ordered and paid. Furthermore the receipt was only via email so I didn’t see that until I got home. I paid a $1 upgrade fee for the Crab Louie (which was immediately pointed out when I ordered it) but was not refunded the $1 when I returned the fake krab for a different, lower priced, salad.

Truly the BEST sandwich I have ever had in my life! We live in Denver and frequent Buena Vista / Fairplay about twice a year. I truly fantasize about the Veggie Sandwich all year long! It is truly the best sandwich I have ever had, and rivals the top meal I have ever had! Truly everything is amazing here! The Greek salad is out of this world (and different than your run of the mill Greek Salad). Their cookies are phenomenal, as is their bread! And truly, every soup I have tasted is amazing - but the Vegan Thai Carrot is OUT OF THIS WORLD! And I am not even Vegan! I wish they were open Sunday/Monday year round --- but I get staffing and busy-ness. The last thing I'd say - which I have heard has gotten better - the only downside is the owner isn't very friendly. HOWEVER, I know that everyone fights battles and things we don't know about, so maybe it was just a rough time she was having.
