Unfortunately our visit was quite poor.
We have visited Kobe's before, at a different location, so we understand the level of service they normally produce.
Our experience was quite bad; I dont like leaving negative reviews, but hopefully, this will reach the right person.
We visited with a reservation. We arrived and told our table would be 5 minutes whilst they set it out. This left us enough time to figure out we'd been assigned the tepenyaki grill. I had to tell the FoH team twice on separate occasions we wanted a normal table. The restaurant use OpenTable. The issue could have been resolved by allowing the guest to select the dining experience they want. It would have eliminated the early trouble.
When we ordered our drinks, half were delivered, and the second part of the order took approximately 10/15 minutes. These were sat on the bar for most of this time - with them being milkshakes and a martini, the ice had melted or just turned warm.
We waited a while to order food, but that wasn't much of an issue. The lady was diligent with taking the order, and we did change our mind a few times on the steak temperature, opting for a cooler temperature due to the steak being slices.
The food came, half of it, and the food was cold, even the veg. We sent 2 back, and the other 2 were also cold, but we had waited about an hour from the point of ordering the food, so those people were just hungry. One of these dishes was a medium rare steak, but it was tough, like well-done.
The other 4 dishes came about 5/10 minutes after the first, and we dined at seperate times.
We had to go to the bar to order drinks, the service was quite slow.
The restaurant was really loud, which can't be helped, and I didn't personally mind this. But there was a lot of smoke. We had 2 individuals with respiratory issues. Most of our party had to go outside or leave before the bill was paid as it was getting hard to breathe. We sat behind one of the tepenyaki grills, and I dont think he used his extractor for most of the meal he cooked. The room was visibly filled with smoke and food odour.
We notified the manager at the end of the meal before payment of some of these issues; we couldn't communicate all of them as it was just too loud to speak, and we didn't want to shout. Quite upsettingly, he seemed to badger our waitress around the restaurant. This was quite off-putting. It's the managers duty to not only take care of issues like this but to ensure the staff are enabled to carry out the level of service the restaurant wants. I believe both of these points had failed today. I dont believe all of the issues we faced were the servers' fault.
But it was very off-putting to see how the manager dealt with the complaint with the member of staff who served us.
They knocked the gratuity off, and we just wanted to leave.
We had made the manager aware of the issue, but the way he dealt with it just made us very uncomfortable. I'd like to return to a different Kobe's, but it will be hard to convince anyone...
Read moreWe came here based on the reviews. The rating was excellent, and Google Maps listed the average price per person as $30–50. Well… in reality, it turned out to be way more than that 😅
This place is definitely for fans of Asian cuisine. There are cool show elements, shared tables (around 10 people), and regular private ones. The difference is: at the regular tables (which my friends and I chose), the food is cooked in the kitchen. But at the shared tables, they cook everything right in front of you — you can watch the whole process and maybe even throw something into the pot yourself (kidding… or maybe not 😄). Honestly, that part looked pretty fun.
We ordered something — don’t even ask me the exact name — it was about $49, something with “three” in the title. Maybe because earlier that day (about 5 hours before) we had some amazing steaks from a food truck, the taste didn’t blow me away. But again, this is food for people who love Asian flavors. I’m just not a fan, to be honest.
For me, the food was a 3/5. The meat took more chewing than I’d like, and flavor-wise, I personally prefer a fattier, sizzling style — that’s my thing. Here it’s different, more of an acquired taste. I don’t want to sound harsh — this place is great if you’re into Asian cuisine. But if you’re not, better skip it, because the prices are definitely above average.
I ended up paying $75, plus left an extra $20 tip from the heart. Normally I spend $30–$40 and eat very well and tastier.
Big respect to our waitress — a lovely older lady who did a fantastic job. So warm, so polite — she definitely earned an extra star 🌟 The hostess was also very sweet and smiley. Service here is top-notch, no doubt about it. They greet you, take care of you till the end, and everyone — waiters, chefs — is friendly and smiling.
In the end, what you pay for here isn’t so much the taste (again, I’m not into this cuisine), but the service and experience. And that’s worth it.
I’m giving this place a 5⭐️ purely for the outstanding service and our sweet...
