I am shocked, SHOCKED to see so many 5 star ratings for Mamacita’s. I’ve been here several times over the years and it’s never been good. I keep coming back because I don’t live in Fredericksburg and keep forgetting how bad this place is. Last year there was a hair in my fried shrimp. I mean, actually fried into the shrimp. This weekend, no hair but the experience wasn’t much better.
First the good stuff. The atmosphere and decor are really nice. It’s the kind of place you want to take family or a group for a nice dinner out. The tortillas are made by hand and the quesadilla was pretty good. Same for the rice and charro beans. The service was fine and the food came out really fast. A little too fast to be honest. There’s just no way our food was cooked to order.
Our server was friendly but got weird when the check came. He was standing in front of me when he handed me the card reader. But then he moved beside me and looked over my shoulder as I was selecting his tip. Literally standing over me, looking over my shoulder watching me add the tip. I tipped 20% even though the food was bad because I’m not a jerk.
The margaritas were weak and tasted like they came from a premade bottle. My wife got the Poco Todo. More like Poco Sabor. Not much flavor. Nothing really stood out. Everything tasted the same. The chile con queso tasted like nacho cheese from a can. The salsa was bland. Like water with a hint of tomato. The jalapeños were black and rotted on the edges, like they really old.
When I got home I was thinking about the black jalapeños and decided to look up Mamacita’s health inspections. I wish I had done that before we went. They’ve failed a few times but most recently got a score of 82. A solid B minus. Cited for “Food employees observed not washing hands” in every inspection. That alone will remind me never to go back. Along with the bad food and...
Read moreOver the years, My wife and I have eaten in and recommended this place many times. The last trip doesn't feel like a one-off experience. We went in put our names on the list, then waited about twice the amount of time we were stated. Going and asking at the counter if we were online the person who appeared to be the manager told us that we had been called and didn't answer. We told him we've been standing outside and had never received a phone call. He then told us we'd have to go back and line and wait another 45 minutes after waiting over an hour already. We told him again we have not been called and looked again and then told us we were The second or third on the list. Very unhappy with this conversation. Either you called, you didn't call, we had to go back on the list, or we were still on the list and just hadn't been called up yet.
And then our waiter came to us with a bit of an attitude and from there it went further downhill. Watching the tables around us everyone had order issues. Our order was brought out separately with my wife getting hers about 15 minutes before I ended up getting mine. Again, the tables around us all seem to have the same problems. The service throughout the meal was atrocious and at one point we went and pointed out to the manager that my meal was still incorrect after receiving my food a second time. He didn't seem too concerned.
I believe this may be the last time we go to Mamacita's. So sorry to have to say this, as this was one of our favorite places in Fredericksburg to eat. One problem fine, but a problem after problem after problem with staff, managers, on and on it's not a simple problem. They...
Read moreI like to start off with I don't write reviews. This is the first I've ever written. I honestly don't complain much. If something is wrong with my order Ill still eat it. However, in this case it was just to much. Me and my partner have been going to Mamacitas for years. We love the place. The managers are fantastic and greet us like family every time we visit.
We were Unfortunately highly disappointed on Thursday 4/20/23. Our order is fairly simple, a Veggie Fajita plate, and chicken and Cheese Quesadillas. I placed the order pick up in 20 minutes no problem. As I come to pick up the order. I can see our food sitting right behind the countertop on the cold table. I try to pay and go. I am told its going to be a minute. Ok fine, about ten to fifteen minutes later of just watching our food get cold. I'm finally able to pay $30+ for the food and leave.
Now my fault I should have checked it, but what reason would I have to check it. Besides the two dismissive girls behind the counter I had no reason to check. Well the Veggie Fajitas consisted of about 80% onions and half a mushroom. We had no salsa or green sauce for the Stale bag of chips, and the chicken quesadillas had no chicken. We live 30 minutes out of town. So coming back to the restaurant is not much of an option. I however cant fathom what I just paid $30+ dollars for? I really cant say. I don't write this review out of spite, I will gladly still recommend Mamacitas to people that ask. This was simply just one bad experience out of...
