I have eaten at the Octopus in Burbank before and had a nice experience but this was my first time at the one in Glendale.
The place was a little chaotic to be honest...
We opted to sit at the sushi bar in stead of waiting for a table since we were starving. The metal foot bar under the counter was broken, so everytime someone sat down and adjusted their feet on it, it would swing up and hit me. Totally random and pretty annoying actually. We got our drinks quickly and ordered a few rolls, sashimi and some fries..or so we thought. Half of our sushi came really quickly and then our chef disappeared for like 20 minutes.
No fries...no rolls.
My bf and I kept ourselves busy with small talk but I was very distracted by the "hangry" that was quickly growing. Eventually our chef returns and we wait another 15 min for the rest of our rolls. But no fries?! Which I would have thought would have been the first thing to come out? Soon after, they bring us the bill and I inquire about the fries. The sushi chef reported that he had called a waitress over to us to come take our fries order but apparently she ignored him an never came over? Lol ...
In the grand scheme of things, we didn't need the fries after all we had eaten but it was pretty poor communication amongst the staff. I also had noticed that the chefs were disorganized and sending orders out to tables that already had gotten their food, etc. It was kind of a mess.
Overall, food was good but the...
Read moreThe words amazing or delicious are deceiving on any reviews for this location. My tempura was good enough. Seaweed salad was okay. Jalapeno Roll was awful it fell apart the moment I picked it up and I am concerned the ingredients were legit. Was told a 15% tip was automatically added to the bill due to their portable payment system. Honestly would have tipped more but not with that BS. Disgusting is what I felt as I left...will not return. No goodbye or thanks for your business as I departed. Not sure the few pieces off Tatsuta chicken I ate wasn't a rat, cat or squirrel. The meat was dark and it chewed like I was eating fried liver or gizzards? Good service only if they perceive you will tip well. I went solo and received one check in to see if I needed anything the entire hour I was there. Bathroom is old, faucet had corrosion and the establishment is not well cleaned. Its like a bldg plopped on top of a dirty gravel road once I looked under the table to retrieve somemthing I dropped. Less than mediocre food. Reported them to the health department. Do...
Read moreI was actually on my way to the theater and found out it was closed. So to make the best of the trip out there, I decided why not try out the happy hour at Octopus.
Came in and was seated right away. Received a lackluster “Irashaimasen” but that didn’t bother me. Waiter was kind, and as soon as I knew what I wanted, I ordered some tempura, and picked out my specialty roll!
The tempura came out first, the texture was deliciously crispy and the flavors were nice! I would definitely recommend the tempura here.
The Alaskan roll on the other hand… what a mess! The sushi rice was just stuck together, and some parts of it wouldn’t even stay on the seaweed. I would try to pick up a piece, and it would literally disassemble itself. It was an utterly messy disaster! I felt like I was eating a poke bowl, and almost asked for a spoon to eat my specialty deconstructed roll.
I would recommend to those who insist on visiting, to skip the sushi and rolls. Despite having a sushi bar on site, perhaps their specialty is fried items and...
