I'm an easy person to deal with. I try to see both sides of the coin and keep an open mind about things to the best of my ability, so I'll try to be as objective as possible.
I went with just two other people, with about 16 customers in the restaurant total. Not a large number, but I've never felt more neglected as a customer. When there is so few in the place, you'd think each person would stand out a bit more. I don't mean to sound whiny, but when you're limited to a number of customers, attention to the few you do have is critical. We were seated very quickly, however, our wait time was severely extended and exceeded 45 minutes by a server that prioritized socializing with another group.
When we finally ordered, our drinks came first. Two of them were Lemonade, and I ordered a Diet Coke. The lemonade came with fizz at the top and the Diet Coke tasted foul. I had one sip, but I could not bring myself to take another sip, so I cannot make a full judgement call on it. The food came in about 30 minutes later.
I had Enchiladas of varying types. The beef and chicken tasted indistinguishable from one another, due to them being drowned out by the very strong sauce covering it. The cheese inside was fairly under cooked and very salty. The tortilla chips seemed like they just opened a box of taco shells, tossed them in a microwave, and served them in a bowl after breaking them apart. Overall, the food portions were a bit on the small side, which is out of the ordinary for a Mexican restaurant.
While service and food quality seemed low, the bill came up very high. For two orders of chicken fajitas and an order of enchiladas with 3 drinks, the total came up to the 80 dollar mark, with tips not being included into the equation. Keeping in mind that I have gotten more in other restaurants for far less (equal amounts of food totaling up to the 40 dollar amount). To me this highlights the idea that downtown's prices are vastly higher for no real concrete reason.
Personally, I found the place to be cramped, however that is not to the detriment of the restaurant, as most of the establishments in the area are designed that way. They do however have outdoor dining as an option. Management also reprimanded and ended very quickly the server and their social break when they caught wind of it, and replaced the server with a more practical one.
All in all, I cannot justify going back myself, due to the high price point versus the low service level and food quantity. One thing that this highlighted for me is the idea that just because it's in downtown does not mean it's good. It may be a very good experience for others, but that's just what I...
Read moreI wish I could give this place zero stars. It is absolutely horrible. Horrible food, worse management.
I worked there for about a week. The place is horribly run and their incredibly high turn-over rate of servers proves this. If you don't believe me, go check the "now hiring" sign that apparently doesn't leave the window.
I quit for a few reasons:
One, I wasn't proud to serve the food and didn't like lying to guests when they asked me how it was. I'm sorry (no I'm not) crinkle fries are not gourmet no matter what you put it with. I don't care how many countries you've visited or what school you graduated from. It's not gourmet, and doesn't even go well the the rest of the food served. My daughters public school cafeteria serves crinkle fries. It's not gourmet. The microwaved queso is not gourmet. The $8 price is gourmet, but the queso is not. The margaritas are overpriced and the amount of alcohol in each is inconsistent (probably because the staff is constantly new and inexperienced) It was disappointing every time I asked a table how their meal was i got a shrug and an "it's okay".
Two, I had a family friend stop by for lunch. He was the only guest in the restaurant at the time, surprising I know. We're not suppose to wait on our friends, understandable. However I did greet him with a hug and chatted with him...for about 2 minutes before the phone rang. It was the owner, who was apparently watching our interactions from the office, telling me it was inappropriate to talk to this gentleman this way and I needed to go ahead and order my shift meal and sit down and eat. Unfortunately my family friend felt very unwelcomed and left. The owner literally ran off money. And then condescendingly asked if that man was my husband (owner had met my husband on several occasions) Which left me under the impression he was insinuating something incredibly inappropriate. That was the last straw for me.
This place has had a nice run I'm sure, but greenville is growing at a pace this place can't keep up with. The menu is stale, boring, and as my memory serves is the same as when I mistakenly ate there 10 years ago. If you want good Mexican there are a plethora of other Mexican restaurants downtown who actually serve GOOD Mexican food. This place doesn't cut it by any definition of the the...
Read moreWhen we were first seated everything was fine. The waiter, Josh, seemed nice enough by making sure we had enough chips and salsa w drinks. We ordered the food and when it came out Josh went to go sit the hot sizzling fajita plate down in from of my friend. He let the black hot plate slide off its holder heading for my friends lap. In order to prevent the hot plate and hot food from going in her lap she had to push the hot plate back onto the table. Josh stated, after the fact, that the plate was very hot and not to touch it. Also stating, "You never touch the plate it's so hot!" Well, DUHHHH Josh, what would you had rather happen? Her get a portion of her hand burnt or a huge part of her stomach and or lap???? Which some of the food did fall in her lap and on the floor. He asked her if she would like some ice.....nah Josh, bring her some ice cream! Of course she would like some ice! That should not have been a question. Well he brings her a cup of ice. Ummmmm, what the hell is she to do with a cup of ice. Well by that time a guy from the back, that has some sense, brought her a clean rag with ice in it.
The food was not the best and didn't taste like Mexican food. Not to mention, items that came with the meal were missing.
Time to check out. Now at any other Resturant I'm pretty sure the meal would have been free due to the waiter causing you to get burned. Hands down, I don't see why that wouldn't have been automatic. But Josh continued to charge her and when she stated she wasn't paying he accused her of being a thief and proceeded to argue with her. Clearly upset that he should be in the right, he placed the to go boxes down on top of food after he was called to the register by the assistant manager. She told him that he should not be arguing with the customers like that. She stated she would take my friends meal off. Josh walked out the door heated as if the customer did something wrong and walked down the street.
I would never refer this restaurant to anyone first BC of the treatment we received and second bc the...
