As a Peruano, I truly appreciate this restaurant. I think the new ownership has made great improvements and I hope they continue to be successful. The owners are truly lovely and are stewards to the community!! Denver is fortunate to have you both!!
If I may provide suggestions on a few items, I hope they're received with positive feedback and to contribute to your continued success.
The tallarin saltado, lomo saltado & chaufa are all delicious! They truly are!! They are much saltier than need to be though. If I may suggest either dialing back on the soy sauce OR I like to use oyster sauce myself. Not as salty or vinegary as soy sauce can be. Otherwise, FANTASTIC!!!!
The tallarin verde was disappointing. The cilantro sauce needs to blended much, much finer and with some more queso. It truly needs to be a creamy green sauce. It was lacking in that department. Tastes great but needs to be a bit cheesier and creamier. Also, the bistek needs to be cut up. Since you don't have a traditional sit down type set up and you don't offer steak knives, the steak HAS to be sliced up. You don't cut up a steak with a butter knife or plastic to-go knife. Simply slice up the steak fajita style and serve it with the pasta. It will make for a much better presentation AND easier to eat up. I truly believe your clientele will appreciate that dish so much more!!
The papa a la huancaina was also very disappointing. Huancaina is a creamy cheese sauce. Yours is a watery, runny dressing. Please, please, please adjust the huancaina sauce to a cheesy, creamy sauce as it's meant to be. I would suggest not offering it as a "salsa" but as an up-charge item. If it's creamier, you don't just give it away. You charge for it and provide a larger portion.
My family and I enjoyed our meal. We really enjoyed the experience here. We HAVE to have the rotisserie chicken next time!! I am disappointed we didn't order it.
Please keep up the fantastic work!! You both are truly a joy and you've made dining in such a wonderful experience.
I hope some of these suggestions are at least considered and if it works out; great!!!
If not, we'll simply be selective on what we order.
Thank you! Muchisimos Gracias!! Viva el...
Read moreI originally tried Pollo Lima by ordering through Foodsby, a lunch delivery service for businesses in the area. I wasn't familiar with Peruvian food, so I googled a few of the dishes and landed on the Aji de Gallina (chicken in a spicy creama sauce) as a few of the descriptions online stated this was a good 1st timers dish. I really liked the flavor profile and portion size is large. I had the side of beans and the flavor profile was different than what I was used to or expecting. Somewhat of a vinegar/sour back ground and I wasn't a fan. I brought my left over chicken dish home along with a coworkers left over Arroz Chaufa (fried rice). My husband was over the moon IN LOVE with the fried rice, said it is the best he has ever had! We both didn't realize how much Peruvian food is inspired by Asian dishes.
Today we did take out for lunch. For him I ordered the Arroz Chaufa with steak. For me I ordered the Tallarin Saltado (stir fry noodles with choice of steak or chicken, red onion, red peppers and tomatoes). As expected he LOVED the fried rice. He said it comes with a little sauce on the side, not sure what it is but said it was good.
The noodle dish I ordered was really good. Similar to Lo Mein. The veggies were cooked really well, soft but not mushy and the noodles were cooked perfectly. It came with a little orange sauce on the side that has quite a quick to it and I liked it. I didn't pour it all over but dipped bites in instead to control the heat. My only complaint was the meat was a little too tough for me. Thus the 4 stars. So next time I will go with the chicken.
Since I am not familiar with Peruvian food, I can't comment on it's authenticity. But what we have eaten is good. The owner who was working at the counter is pleasant. They also have a salsa bar, but we didn't try those this time. I would definitely say give this place a try for something unique and different than you usually...
Read moreThis is the best restaurant I’ve ever been to hands down. I am Colombian, and I have grown up eating Colombian food, and visiting Latin restaurants both here and in Colombia all my life. I hate to say it, but this was better than any Colombian food I’ve ever eaten, and was one of the best meals I’ve ever had IN MY LIFE. I ordered Bistec a lo Pobre, which is a big plate with rice, two fried eggs, French fries, fried plantains and steak. Everything was the best. Before we even got our food, I already knew this place was going to be extraordinary after trying their sauce. Their green sauce reminded me exactly of the sauce my Mom made us growing up, and I was so impressed! The yellow sauce was also amazing. The plantains/plátanos were the best I’ve ever had, I’ve never tried them so soft and sweet before, I was blown away! The steak was excellent, and paired with the sauce and the egg was absolutely mouth watering. The rice was some of the best rice I’ve ever head, you might think what makes rice so special, but this rice was just that good! I got to try the tostones/patacones and fried Yuca as well, and both were so good. The staff was very friendly, attendant, and the manager even took time to talk with guests between orders to see how they liked it. I left feeling so happy and content that I had found my new favorite restaurant, the best food I’ve ever eaten, at a decent price and so close to home! Praise God!! I was truly blessed by Pollo Lima,...
