Campfire restaurant in Helen GA is a hidden gem for delicious home style food and is worth the short drive off the downtown hustle and bustle of the Helen GA strip of shopping and long waits for a table. This is out of the way, down a side street, more towards the hotel section of the city. It's worth getting away and having a relaxing meal. There is plenty of free parking in the strip mall parking lot behind the building. You don't have to worry about a long walk since you can drive to it and find free parking. (A nice thing in touristy Helen)
We decided to sit outside because of a nice day and wanted to enjoy the cool breeze under the shade. In the evening, there was no sun on the seats outside. On this day, there was a nice breeze to enjoy this early summer early evening. If it's hot outside, you might want to opt for the inside option. The only thing I could say about the outside Miranda is that you may have people from the nearby stores walking close by or through.
Sitting down on the veranda immigrated with a friendly wait staff and a homey atmosphere. If you walk inside, there is a series of booths, a few tables in the middle around a campfire motif area. Hence the name.
The menu is quite extensive, almost entirely featuring camp like menu. Smashburgers as a major draw for Campfire. While I did not try a burger or any of the handheld relatives, the table next to us had ordered several, and they looked delicious. The clean plates that were picked up from that table also testify to the flavor of their featured burgers.
On the drink menu, there is an extensive selection of beers and weed water to choose from to drink. We opted for their house wine, which was a Pinot Grigio with a surprisingly nice nose and taste. Since it was thirsty Thursday a weekly special at campfire, there were discounts for the drinks. (Check the menu for the )
We chose to chicken dishes, from the meals section how's the menu. They came with two sides, and the chicken portions were very generous.
Since our sides were chosen with our order, the choice of Caesar salad came out very quickly. A typical Caesar salad with fresh Romaine parmesan and croutons with the Caesar salad and served on the side. But lettuce of the romaine leaves was very crisp and fresh. A good start for a meal
The Tuscan grilled chicken has two generous 6 oz portions of chicken breast that came with two choices of sides. This time, we chose a Caesar salad and their mashed potatoes. The Tuscan sauce it is a spinach cream sauce with fire roasted tomatoes this is a perfect complement for the grilled chicken and provided intense flavor, this is a great compliment to the mashed red skinned potatoes, serve Homestyle with some of the peel, making a hearty bite to the dish. It's especially good when eaten with a bite of chicken and sauce .
The other entree was the fried chicken, again with two sides. This time, the other side besides the salad was "Backflip brussel sprouts and roasted potato medley." This turned out to be an excellent choice. The chicken portions are too 6 oz chicken breast portions heavily battered and deep-fried. These are served with a steak knife, which will need the steak knife. Chicken was super hot, almost burning your mouth when you first cut into it. The breading was flavorful and thick. The brussel sprouts have an Asian inspired sauce to complement the roasted brussel sprouts that were cut in half to absorb the flavor. The roasted sweet potato medley also complimented and added sweetness to the dish. The only thing I would caution about is the sauce seems to be a soy sauce based as many Asian inspired sauces are if you're trying to watch your salt intake you might ask for the sauce to be served on the side instead of poured over it.
Our wait staff team member, Alyssa, was very personable and made our dining experience easy and relaxed. And we were never rushed. Overall, this was a wonderful relaxing evening enjoying the early summer evening. This is going to be one of my go-to places whenever I visit Helen...
Read moreGreat first impression. Recommended for Helen, GA tourists.
Fast and kind service: At the time, was only another couple eating, so service was lightning fast (some places stay slow even with low traffic, so big plus). Less than 15 minutes from drinks to meal. These folks don't play. The gentleman, I think named Christian(?) Was very alert and focused, and checked up almost by clockwork. I did not feel ignored and he did not lose track of the people before and after me.
Design and cleanliness: Place was clean with great interior layout. Not much more to say here.
Food: Signature dish- smash burger. Juicy, smashable where I'm not dislocating my jaw to eat it, and great presentation. The fries had quite a kick to them. Likely the only thing I can see that may shake people away is the extra seasoning, but I enjoyed it. The Moscato was sweet like Castella or Roscato. I think it was called Cameron Hughe? I'm usually disappointed due to my pickiness with wine, so this was a relief it matched my sweet tooth palette. The signature dessert- s'more pie, was pretty much a lava cake with graham cracker crust topped with a browned marshmallow. Delicious and rich, and i appreciate the themed twist. Got full before I could finish it. The food matches the theme and predictable, which is a compliment.
Cost: for the quality of food, I was expecting it to be much more expensive. It's affordable and almost want to say it should have been at least $10 MORE than what they're selling for. That might just...
Read moreWe ate here Saturday Aug 24 during a conference lunch break. We ordered chicken nachos with no jalapenos ($16) and chicken Alfredo. ($19). Nachos came out with jalapenos. When I pointed that out to the server, she said "yeah, when he does that, he spreads them out-in a ring." I said "I ordered them without" -to which she replied with a not so friendly tone "do you want me take them back?" Told her "no". (we had limited time)
Nachos were made with flour tortillas--which makes them soft and soggy and not crunchy. (not in description) Wish I was joking but there was approximately 6 pieces of diced chicken on the platter--if added up, it would amount to less then 1/8 of a cup of protein. Tomatos were fire roasted (not in description), sour cream was in description (did not come served with it), came with 1/2 a head a lettuce and some mexican corn relish that was not my favorite.
The other entree was chicken alfredo with about 1/8 cup of chicken that was prepared the same way as nachos chicken and not enough sauce-it was very very dry. There was a lot of pasta--but who wants to eat dry pasta?
Server did take off $3 for the kitchen mishap.
We understand they just opened and server told us the menu was just printed last week.
**To the server--you are the final check for food going out--you need to make sure it is how the customer ordered. If incorrect-send back. There were two mistakes on one entree. Apologizing also helps...
