OMG I found a piece of Japan in Waikiki! This little nook is located on Kuhio by Marukame Udon. There's no parking unless you find street parking, walk from another parking lot or do a drive by as in get dropped off and the other person circles back to pick you up! The women there work really hard and are really nice. If it's crowded, orders can get backed up so please be patient with them.
This place makes you feel like you are back in Japan! It's a simple menu basically made up of matcha or hojicha drinks and matcha and vanilla soft serve! This is NOT like McDonald's soft serve. This green tea soft serve has a strong matcha taste so it's more on the less sweet and bitter side; it isn't the creamy matcha type.
So if you don't like matcha, this is not the place for you. I love matcha so I think it's delicious. The vanilla soft serve is also pretty amazing, it has a buttery smooth taste. I've tried almost everything on the menu, except for the frappes. They have one parfait, the Maiko Special which was good but I prefer simpler desserts and this one had too many different things in it. My personal favorite here is the floats, I've had matcha and hojicha. But I really like the matcha tea with either matcha flavor or vanilla flavor soft serve depending how matcha I'm craving matcha!
There's not other soft serve like this in Hawaii. It's almost as good as Japan!

Matcha Ice Cream: The matcha ice cream was sublime! The smooth, creamy texture perfectly balanced the rich, vibrant green tea flavor. It was like tasting a sweet, frozen piece of Japan.
Maiko Special: The Maiko Special, a signature drink, stole the show. This work of art combined expertly whisked matcha powder with velvety milk, creating a harmonious blend of bitter and sweet notes. Each sip transported me to a serene Japanese garden.
Authenticity: What impressed me most was the cafe's commitment to authenticity. The matcha used is directly sourced from Japan, ensuring the highest quality and flavor. The owners' attention to detail and passion for matcha culture shine through in every aspect of the cafe.

Read moreWe love anything matcha thus were we're thrilled when we found out about Maiko.
Given our busy schedule, it was unfortunate that we could only visit this place the day before our departure and we deeply regret that we did not make time to visit this place earlier so we could come back to it before the end of our vacation.
We ordered the Maiko signature cup, I think that's what it was called. It has matcha cake, ice cream and some other desserts which we LOVED.
The other thing that stood out to us was that the payment system they used had no tipping option. Unlike many other places where you are presented with a screen with tipping options after they hand you just a cup of coffee, and the tip usually starts with 15%, Maiko has no tipping screen. I personally dislike the American tipping culture so that was a big plus for me. I'm willing to pay extra, even have the tip baked into the price, just don't ask me to tip 15-20% for handing me a drink.
Anyways, I would definitely recommend you to...
