Would not recommend. The food is bad, and all of it has this rubbery, old hot dog type texture and taste. It feels like they boil all their meat so they can just grill the outside a little and call it good. The BBQ chicken is not as pictured at all, and literally has no BBQ sauce on it. The smoked meat also tastes like spam. The best thing there was probably the short rib, just because you could actually taste rib, even though it also had a rubber texture. The service is also terrible. I got there early, and they didn't open up until 20 minutes after their listed opening time. I ordered and paid, and only after I did that did they tell me that they had no rice, and they couldn't give me any fries because they "just got there" and didn't have their fryer up and running. The cashier lady literally told the other person there to go ask the other food trucks if they had rice, and he went to go get some with a little take out box, which he was just swinging around all open and brushing up against his pants and leg. The only other side they had was mac salad, which was also bad. I went here based on all these other reviews saying it's the best "authentic hawaiian bbq", and was sorely disappointed. Do not waste your money on this overpriced questionable meat. Only time will tell if I get...
Read moreMy family & I saw the lot full of food trucks upon returning to our hotel. It was only a block away, but the greatest delight of our trip. We hope to hit it again before heading back to San Diego.
We walked around to see what all was offered between the trucks. But nothing there even sounded nearly as good, as the BBQ smell coming from TryDis! My entire family immediately came back & started looking at the menu.
Not only did the food smell heavenly, our hosts were fantastic to interact with. They felt like family - warm, fun, & lots of love.
My wife went for the Shrimp. My kids all went for the Kalbi. I doubled up with the Kalbi & the BBQ chicken. The atmosphere was just as warm. We decided to stay & eat there, as I doubt we could resist the heavenly smell all the way to the hotel.
We've been in Oahu for a few days, & Dis was by far the best food we've had this far - that includes a Luau last night. TryDis was worthy of going back to thank our hosts for the wonderful meal.
They both took time out of their busy food rush, to thank me for the kind words & wish each...
Read moreItems were sold out the previous night so we were told to come early the next morning to make sure we had all the options. Arrived the next morning...only to find out that the Lilikoi smoked meat was still not ready (and wouldn't be ready until later in the day).
Ordered the $26 Trydis mix with kalbi and creamy garlic shrimp. ($27 after credit card fee.) The kalbi was well marinated and had good flavor. The creamy garlic shrimp (see photo) did not match the display photos nor the ones people posted in the past. The shrimp were small in size and quantity, unlike the photos, and they were drenched in mayo with minimal garlic flavor. The Mac was interesting with short pasta noodles and cooked tuna, not the typical recipe.
The environment was so-so. The large garbage disposal bins are located a few trucks down, but the wind kept blowing the strong stench everywhere. Sit further away to avoid the smell if you can.
All in all, not the experience we expected given the higher price. Lack of preparation of the smoked meat was disappointing given...
