First and foremost, I do want to say the food was very good, what wasnât very good is $50 for two people who came to the restaurant to the very first time and nothing was really explainedâŠ
The menu board is bot clear about things, and even though the cashier said they would explain everything to us they really didnât.
Went in about 1 oâclock on a Saturday, first red flag they really didnât have much of a selection. One pork, three beef, a few chicken and then cheese and jalapeño.
My son ordered first getting three tamales in husk, $11 (not sure why they call it in a husk when they did a husk itâŠ) he took the pork and two of the beef. I ordered the same thing, but then got asked if i wanted rice. Now at this point, I should say that it was partially my fault for not understanding that she asked me a question, that she didnât ask him, but that being said i didnât think it would be a huge issue.
I got the last beef and two chicken; should be noted again this is lunch tome, on a Saturday, yet at no time did it appear they planed to restock the others, nor were we told others would be coming out at any point, so neither of us got what we wanted really.
After warming them up they asked if we wanted topping, no again Iâll point out that this seemed kind of like CafĂ© Rio type thing and I admit it was my fault for not asking, but at no point where we told that the toppings would be extraâŠ
After getting to the register, we were charged for two meals because we had toppings, after protesting, the lady who had been making our food had to explain that on my sons. It wasnât a meal that there was just an extra charge for topping, the casher seemed to disagree but rang it up as that anyways. Mine however because i got rice was meal, and so the price for mine was almost $18 PLUS another $4 because the meal only comes with two tamales , and i had gotten three, again something the menu board didnât advertise and we were not told.
So six tamales, and a cheesecake slice size-piece of Flan came to almost $50. A tad Ironic when you they a sign out front saying donât buy tamales from a lady in the Walmart parking lot, but instead buy from them, when I likely couldâve got a few dozen tamales from a lady in a Walmart parking lot for the same priceâŠ
The restaurant is nice. The location is kinda hard to get to, but thatâs downtowns fault not theirs, just be aware if youâre not local to the area, youâll very likely not to find parking anywhere close, so you will likely have to walk a few blocks, especially if there are any other events going on in or around downtown.
The staff were nice, just didnât really explain things like they said they would when they asked specifically if it was our first time in. Menu board information seems rather lackluster, and they use stock pictures instead of pictures of their own food. (Ie flan was not round but a slice)
Overall, the food was very good, but for the price, Iâm much more likely to buy significantly more tamales off a little Hispanic woman in a parking lot, then return here...
Read moreHusband and I walked in and were a bit overwhelmed. Told the girl at the register we hadn't been there before and started looking over the menu. The owner came up to us, introduced himself, thanked us for coming to eat there. We decided to get the 3 tamales option and share it. He introduced us the their rice options, then to the tamal options finally the sauce options. We went with the jalapeño rice, 1 chicken, 1 pork, and 1 Beef. We couldn't decide on the sauce.. so he said whay not all 3? We agreed that would be delicious. He visited with us while it went though the oven, then he gave us samples of his topping sauces so we could decide and we also went with all 3, but the avocado one was super good (from the sample he gave us)its almost like a spicy avocado ranch, but better. While we decided what to drink he gave us samples of their new strawberry horchata to try. The atmosphere was great with really neat seating options.. while we ate, the owner came over to see how the food was.. again its Amazing.. he visited with us and told us the history of how their business came to be. We both...
Read moreGreat little place downtown. A bonus that they are open late on the weekends. The town definitely needed this place. I tried the pork and the chicken tamales, they have some great flavors, along with a choice of poblano rice, which was incredible. Or, Spanish rice. Tons of good toppings for them like jalapeños, salsa, guacamole, cheese. The staff was great, very friendly and answered any questions.
You gotta try the frozen Horchata drink. It's like a slushy Horchata. Unbelievably good.
I was very surprised with the decor inside. Extremely clean, and very nicely laid out with some cool paintings.
They have a couple tables outside, and I'm guessing maybe 12 to 15, inside. Just a cool little place. Very happy with it.
Overall, a great addition to downtown. I wish them well and would recommend them to anyone. Will be back for sure....
