For the night of March 12th, @ 6pm -
Have been faithful customers for five years now, and have never had a bad experience. Until tonight, when we had a bad experience that also left us feeling disrespected and tentative on ever coming back. TLDR; at the end if you want to skip.
My fiancé and I walked in like so many times before, and noticed it was busy like usual, and expected a normal quick dinner. We ordered
a chips and pico a chips and queso shrimp taco beef fajita taco tin roof taco chorizo breakfast taco one drink 2x sour cream cups
Then these things happened:
We sit down with our chips, queso, and pico, and I go to grab a drink. After trying three different beverages, I realized the machine was not going to work - no carbonation in the sodas, only water coming from the lemonade and powerade. No big deal, things happen, Ill drink water and get the cup refunded.
Start to dig into the chips and they are WAAAY salty. These did not taste like the chips we normally have their, and as I looked around I noticed no one else had chips, this must be why, they were just really bad tonight. Also, no big deal, batch got over salted, things happen.
But the pico also tastes funny - like sour, with a weird after taste. I think the pico was bad or on the verge; again, it just did not taste like what we normally have - what we have received for the last 5 years. Frustrated, but still acknowledging that sh$t happens, and at least we will have our tacos that we really like.
Except those never came. I heard my name ring out "Josh!" and went up, but someone else was grabbing the food that was called - another guy named Josh. Alright, shoot. I waited about ten minutes from here and never heard my name, so I went to the counter and conferred with the gentlemen behind the counter. THey had to find my order - apparently the young man at the front had written my name "Joish" on the receipt (see photo) to denote my order from the other Josh's order. For some reason, our order got cleared out and never made. They were not certain, but it could have been that the other guy's order never got made, and he took ours not knowing. Either way, we just wanted our food, and we had been waiting almost 25 minutes by this point. He said he would get to it soon, and also the young lady said they were working on the soda machine. Things were looking up.
After ten more minutes, I went back up to inquire, and to no avail. They did not have an answer, and said it would be a few minutes. Okay.
Ten more minutes later, I head to the front, and ask one last time - I was told they were getting to it but it would have to come out once everyone else's was off the list. Which was a long line from the looks of it. We had already been here 45 minutes, and watched ten other parties get there food ahead of us. So I went to the front and asked for a refund. This is why they get the one star - because the young lady was nice, she even recognized us because we had been in so much, and said she give a full refund. Which I appreciate.
What I do not appreciate is being made to wait through all that, and no one could have the decency to make our food, when it takes less than two minutes to set up those tacos and get them cooked. Usually we wait about 5 minutes and our food is out. Busy night? No problem. But not 45 minutes, not when I have been coming here this long, not when I do not even have the promise of my food coming, after handing my food out to someone else, and not making a moment right that was the establishments mistake, not mine.
TLDR; they just do not seem to care at all, I never got all my food, and the little I did get was terrible. We will try again another time and update this review and leave another one if its a better experience. But I personally would not chance the place currently - I am not certain why but the chips and pico were just awful and nothing like they used to be, and the polite service we normally receive was not present until the end, when it was too late and we...
Read moreWe were by the hospital downtown today. Hungry but didn't want anything crazy big so we decided on Tin Roof Tacos for dinner.
Walking in, this joint was poppin!! So many people out on this beautiful Friday. It was nice to see so many people out and about. We checked out their menu board and ordered our goodies. We found a spot at one of the communal tables and hung out till our food was ready.
The tacos were in their own individual container which was nice. Everything looked delicious on the tray. I grabbed a few different tacos to try. Shrimp, beef fajita and fried chicken tacos were on tonight's menu.
The shrimp taco was good. I wish that the shrimp was fresh fried. I can tell it had been previously fried cause it was cold and the batter was really hard. Adding lime and salsa helped a bit but the batter on it was so hard. The beef fajita taco was my favorite. The beef was tender and flavorful. I enjoyed the sweet grilled onions of top of it. Adding the salsa made it that much more tasty! The fried chicken taco was pretty similar to the shrimp taco. The chicken was previously fried so it was not warm and hard. It had a cream sauce to it which helped the extra crunchy chicken. It was good but I'm sure it would have been that much more fabulous if the chicken was fried fresh. I was still hungry after the 3 tacos so I decided to grab a corn taco. That's probably one I would not reorder again. The corn was dry and then paired with 2 tortillas, it was was like eating cardboard.
It was nice to come in and eat with everyone. The beef fajita was legit and I would go back for that taco. I really wish I would have enjoyed the other 3 tacos as much as I did the fajita. I do look forward to coming back and trying other options...
Read moreI was really shocked to see that Tin Roof had 4 1/2 stars after eating there today. I had been waiting to try it for a while after hearing mixed reviews from friends. When we first arrived there wasn't a lot of helpfulness. Some people who must have been friends of the cooks were going up to the other counter where the chefs were while some were going up to the counter you order at. No one offered any direction as we stood there so I wasn't sure if I was standing at the right place to order. Although, the customer service was lacking; I was still enthused to try the food. When I got the food I noticed it didn't look fresh, but looks can be deceiving. I eagerly bit in to discover none of the taco was heated what so ever. I'm not sure if that's just the way its done there? One of my orders was wrong (which I don't really care about). The tacos were dry and cold. The worst thing I ordered was the fish taco. It seemed slightly spoiled to me. I am NOT a picky eater. I will eat anything. This was one of only three times in my life I have not finished my food or taken it home. I'm disappointed. I have been so excited to try Tin Roof for a while now. Back to the taco...
