This was my first time here. The staff was friendly and engaging. The atmosphere was beautiful, and the ambiance was there! We started off with cocktails. They were good and well balanced. I had a (2) margaritas, and my friend had lemon drop martinis. The fresh bread and butter spread was delicious. I had a wedge salad that was fresh and nice and crispy. My friend had crab cakes that she said were "just ok." Our entrees were the Ribeye, and she had I believe the T-bone. This is where the problems began. I requested my steak to be prepared well...no pink....my friend requested hers be medium, and we ordered loaded baked potatoes. The food was a little slow to come out, but that wasn't too bad, as we were enjoying our drinks. When the food finally arrives, they are cooked inaccurately. Mine was as she'd requested and vice versa. The baked potatoes were luke-warm and tasted old. The server took our food back to be corrected, and the manager came to address us. He was friendly and genuinely concerned. The food came back... still not good. I was given the same steak... cooked to the point that it was totally dry and tough ( i know i asked for well done, but geesh)and my friends' steak was various temperatures and levels of doneness. Mine was so bad I couldn't eat it. To top it off, there was barely any seasoning, and no matter how much salt I and steak sauce, I added flavor still evaded my pallet. The replacement baked potatoes were just as bad if not worse than the 1st ones. When the manager came out to check on us, we expressed our disappointment to him. We told him we would still pay as the communication was mostly to help them improve for the next customer. He was apologetic and offered us a free dessert and took 1 of the baked potatoes . My friend was not happy with our server and felt as if he was rushing and dismissive. He wasn't that bad imo, however I did understand how she felt. Overall I was not satisfied with my experience. For a dining experience that cost over $280 I had higher expectations. Needless to say we will not be back. How do you do so badly serving up the main thing you're featuring....Tony's Steak House had horrible steak. I still wanted a good steak, so the next day, I made my own and it was delicious. Oh I also got sick that night throwing up with diarrhea so that absolutely did not help my opinion of my experience...

And I can say that within that year this establishment has only gotten better -- if that was possible. Every staff member we met was cordial, welcoming and helpful. I have little doubt that all the wait staff are excellent, but if you ask for Alexander, you will have an outstanding experience without question. Since our previous visit, Alexander has successfully completed the high standards to achieve the formal designation as a sommelier and he can provide excellent guidance to the extensive wine list. As for the food, I believe the quality is unsurpassed in the Indianapolis market - or most anywhere else. The salads and dressing options were very nice. And the bread was nice and crusty but a tasty, soft texture inside. The entree selections our group of six chose included salmon, short ribs, dry-aged new york strip steak and a barrel cut filet for me. Everyone commented how perfectly their choice was prepared. My filet was an excellent cut of meat with every smidgen consumed. Desserts were too tempting to pass up, and rightly so. With Alexander leading the way, the entire wait staff was very attentive to any need or question without hovering over our table. Maitre 'd, Michael, also made it a point of not only welcoming us when we arrived, but also stopping by the table for a friendly chat and to check on any comments we may have. Our overall experience was simply outstanding. Everyone in our group agreed that this is indeed the Number 1 restaurant in the Indianapolis market. We also agreed that we would make an extra effort to save up our nickels for a sooner return visit, as it is not inexpensive. But you pay for quality, and that's exactly what you get at Tony's of Indianapolis.
Previously: With an incredible steak grilled perfectly, outstanding service by waiter and budding sommelier Alexander providing guidance to the extensive wine list assembled by Michael, it was a superb experience. Members of our party of six ordered varying entrees and each commented as to the superb quality, flavor and preparation of their meal. This relatively new steakhouse in town is set to give the long-reigning champion a real run for its money. Competition is good and Tony's has already assumed that mantle IMHO. Clearly, a very enjoyable evening...
Read moreThis place is one of the reason I wish Google had a 10 point scale. I give out five stars when a place is great, most of those would be a 9. This place is a 10. The service is great, super friendly and helpful. The noise level is good, music is great, and overall aesthetics and ambience are chef's kiss.
My server Isaiah was fantastic - very friendly, knowledgeable, and personable.
I had two drinks, the Bad buffalo and a buffalo trace on the rocks. The bad buffalo was awesome, I was hesitant as the ingredients weren't necessarily something I'd steered towards, but it turned out great. Not much to say about buffalo trace, besides that it's hard to mess that up 😉
But, we come to restaurants for food. And Tony's blows it out of the park. I had to hold myself back from stuffing myself on the bread, and then the crab cake, in order to fully take in the steak.
Everything was phenomenal - I wish my wife was here so I could share this experience with her. The sourdough bread, is the best sourdough I've had. It's chewy, airy, and the crust was a perfect amount of crunch.
The Jumbo crab cake appetizer is an entree in of itself, and the best crab cake I've had. I'm from the Midwest, but I've had various crab cakes including in Mass, Maryland, and Florida. The crab flavor shown through and melded with the sauce perfectly. The crisped outer edges were a delightful texture contrasting with the softer interior.
Now for the big one - the steak. I don't normally go to steakhouses, everytime I do I'm slightly disappointed as I enjoy the flavor of steaks I cook better. However, Tony's flavor was amazing, as well as the doneness. It was exactly as I ordered - medium rare - even with a large thickness (about 2-2.5 inches thick). It's the reason I keep trying Steakhouses because I know someone (lots of people likely) do much it better than me. And Tony's is just so many levels above anything I've had previously.
Overall, I highly recommend Tony's and hope if you go you have the...
