A mediocre Japanese Import but come see the robot waiter.
Okay, the food, not gonna lie, is pretty mediocre. The sushi is as fresh as you're gonna get for 3.75 a plate. If you want bang for your buck, get the roll they come with 4 pieces per plate, so you'll be pretty full. The best items I got are the ones I ordered via the console.
I started by ordering a drink (ice cold water cause it was hot out, and I just took a 45-minute stroll around the neighborhood to skip the lunch rush). I ended up ordering a second drink (Pibbs Xtra) cause I wasn't able to get a recording of the robot delivering my drink. And I was honestly disappointed by this: the soda was flat and kinda warm like they filled the cup from a bottle that was unrefridgerated, and thats why all the ice melted.
Anyway, one disappointed drink order down and 15 plates of food to go so I can get a gacha prize that I most likely have no use for.
I started with a plate of yellowtail, which was okay. It didn't taste like it sat around too long. Then a plate of sweet shrimp, this one was better and taste decently fresh. Next was a plate of Hokkaido scallop which was tender and quite tasty. I also had the premium American beef (which is slices of medium steak on rice) which wasn't half bad, the fried garlic slivers really added something. I also got the seared beef with yakiniku sauce, the beef on this one is slightly more tender and the sauce goes great with rice. I also had a plate of Toro (which is the fatty part of a tuna) this is a premium cut so there is only one piece pert plate and its honestly the best option here. The fish is so tender it basically melted in your mouth; highly recommend.
There are several sushi options with unami oil in its name, I tried a few (I think the unami oil seared beef and the salmon) and its just sesame oil. In fact the flavor of sesame is so prevalent that I couldn't really taste anything else. I would not get these unami oil options again.
There are hot side options that are also available, some on found on the conveyor but I recommend ordering from the console. I got the crispy squid and the shishito salmon skin. Both I recommend, the salmon skin is crispy and full of salmon flavor and I just love the roasted shishito peppers (which are also found in the crispy squid dish).
There are several dessert items, but most of them are more than 3.75. So I just stuck with the ones that were like warabimochi and the Hokkaido mik Creamy tart. Both are delicious and recommended.
Honestly I think its worth a trip to just try this unique dining experience (if you never had conveyor belt sushi) and see th robot waiter deliver your...
Read moreI have been coming here regularly about 10 times now. I find the wait to be fine since you know exactly how long it’ll be (when checking in on the app), I simply plan my time accordingly. I’ve never personally had a time where I was made to wait longer, except maybe to simply wipe down a table for me.
I find the staff to be very pleasant and kind, I do enjoy the greeting upon entering. They are always super quick to help me refill my soy sauce and bring me my hot tea so the robot doesn’t get me scalded and thus fired.
I don’t find the fish to rice ratio to be off, in fact when I just most recently went the fish was sashimi thick. Some like the wagyu are naturally thinner but the fish is always reasonable.
The past 2 or 3 times that I’ve gone, I find that sitting in the single chairs towards the entrance is towards the “end of the line” and I did get increasingly more sad as I patiently waited for a popular item to be replaced (And not taken) but it always was. Kura makes up for this by allowing you to order whatever sushi you want through the screen but sadly then the experience is lost and I might as well order online.
My biggest complaint in coming here has always been, and will forever be, the price. I consistently pay $80 for one person. 15 plates at $4 a plate plus a dessert or two and tip, it is robbery plain and simple. Why do I still come then you may ask? Because I understand you pay mostly for the experience and maybe also a little for the variety. Do I also love sliding my plate down and hearing the “thunk”? Yeah maybe. Do I get a little dopamine rush when I’ve inserted enough plates and out pops a dinky plastic ball with a sticker inside? Okay yeah definitely but it’s different when I’m fully aware of the bait and switch, right? Right??
Anyway, wish this place was cheaper so I could come more than once every three months. Please for the love of all things holy someone see this so I can be my authentic...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusted at the Staff. If you’re pregnant stay away, because they have no issue being RUDE telling a pregnant woman with children to go wait outside like we are stray dogs. We usually go to the Fort Lee location and they are a MILLION times more accommodating and KIND. We went to this location for the first time, my husband dropped me off with our kids while he parked. I register on the waitlist and had 3 people ahead of me so we stepped inside to wait since it’s COLD. It was cold inside as well and there were other people waiting, even with strollers. The greeter allowed two other families to leave their strollers inside, we did NOT have a stroller and he told us to go wait outside, SEEING I am clearly pregnant. I stood closer to the door inside with our kids and once again he came over RUDELY telling me I have to wait outside to which I told him I am not going to wait outside with 4 minors and being pregnant. He lied and said his manager is getting on his case about me standing there (there were NUMEROUS people inside by the way) so I asked to speak to this manager and he walked away quickly. No manager ever came.
Furthermore, FOLDING CHAIRS?? We go to our table and he puts a folding chair. YES one of those party folding chairs. How ridiculous you go to a RESTAURANT paying $3+ a plate and you have to sit at a table with a folding chair. Our bill came up over $100. The food? Tasteless for the most part and lacking. SOME items were amazing so we kept getting those. The majority were clearly stale and the beef tasted spoiled.
Please don’t waste your time and money for poor service and poor quality of food.
UpdateI filed a formal complaint with management based in California and they sent me a refund check for my complete...
