I’m terribly disappointed in this joint. Based on the shining reviews from other travelers, I was excited to get good food at a moderate prices. Instead, I received apathetic service from a girl whose name begins with a “V” who was too busy yelling out the order window at her friends to be remotely interested in other patrons placing orders. I heard her give the same apathetic service to everyone behind me - not one single person was rude to her in any way. Their only fault, like my own, was asking questions about items on their very large, very overwhelming yet vague, menu. Ordering was incredibly difficult. The prices were inappropriately high for basic food items - could have eaten fresh seafood at a cheaper price and had better service. There was no kids menu for any item (least not that I could find on that gigantic menu); our items ordered included 1 bbq sandwich, 1 Texas steak & cheese, 1 order of large fries, 2 sundaes, and 1 malt - total price paid was approximately $35. The steak and cheese was overloaded with so much salt I felt like I was licking a salt rock, so I only ate maybe half. The malt was melting and looked like chocolate milk as soon as it was handed to us. One sundae was overflowing and messy and the other barely had any custard. The bbq was meh. The only redeeming quality was the fries: Idaho Russet potatoes are never wrong. This was my first and last time here. It’s a huge letdown when you show up excited about a product and you’re left feeling like your sheer presence is bothersome to the business. All I ever expect from a restaurant is efficient service (not coddling) and good food, especially when their prices reveal the overvaluation of their food. Kill Devil’s couldn’t even meet the minimum expectations. I get it - we are tourists, and tourists have the potential to be annoying. But I really feel that today I witnessed polite people across the board be treated disparagingly while being overcharged for food that absolutely was not worth the price. If our only mistake is showing up to give them money, then I hope no one else makes the same...
Read moreWe love frozen custard but it's not always easy to find in the south so we were thrilled to find Kill Devil's Frozen Custard and Beach Fries on a recent vacation. The frozen custard is delicious, generous servings, and reasonably priced. Anyone familiar with Abbot's Frozen Custard in Rochester, New York will appreciate the quality of this frozen custard. It's really, REALLY good...so smooth, creamy, and flavorful.
The menu has a great selection of items from single flavor cups/cones to banana splits, sundaes, shakes, and more. There is also a nice sandwich selection including burgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken breast sandwich, and even a veggie burger. The beach fries are fresh not frozen and are yummy plain or loaded with cheese and chili.
All the food we've tried there is awesome, and it's a great spot (outside dining or pickup only) to get a quick lunch or have frozen treat during the day, after a long day at the beach, or for dessert after dinnner in the evening. The service was good and the outdoor dining areas and parking lot were very clean and well kept. The young man who took our order was very efficient and very pleasant.
It's a pretty popular place so don't be surprised if there's a crowd, but the service is provided quickly so don't let a crowd stop you from going. The frozen yogurt alone is well worth a wait. Oh...and the HUGE pink Adirondack chair out front helps make it easy to spot and the kids love it!
It's one of our favorite go-to's for frozen treats or a quick burger when we're in the...
Read morePros: good ice cream and house made whipped cream.
Cons: Had to wait 45 minutes with 2 toddlers. When my mom asked to make sure our order wasn’t lost, they said “we told you it was a 20-25 minute wait.” No one ever mentioned this to us. We asked for the ice cream to come out after the food. They said sure but the ice cream came out first. Not okay with toddlers who won’t eat food if they see ice cream! They did stick it in the freezer after we asked. They forgot one of the drinks and it wasn’t charged, so when we picked up and asked, the manager made my mom get back in line and wait to pay for it. I decided I wanted whipped cream on my ice cream once I saw it was house made, but when we picked up and asked, the manager made us wait in line AGAIN to pay 1$ for whipped cream. Nowhere on the menu does it say whipped cream cost extra. The classic burger was good but very salty.
I hoped this would be a quick, fun dinner with kids, but sadly it took forever and was a long stressful wait. We had hoped to go to Jockey Ridge after but had to cancel our plans and go home as the kids were too tired and it was too late. I don’t normally leave negative reviews but would not...
