We visited Half Moon Restaurant around noon on a chilly day, and the inside of the restaurant was a bit cold too. Considering the weather, we were not too surprised. We could feel the heat was on, but it just needed time to warm up. đ
We were seated at a lovely table near a glass-encased fireplace, but unfortunately, no one seemed to know how to turn it on. The pilot light was on, but the fire never went beyond that. Still, the atmosphere was warm in another way because the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everyone greeted us with a smile, which we really appreciated.
We started our meal with breadsticks and beer cheese, and I have to say, the beer cheese was absolutely delicious. It might just be the best I have ever tasted.
Our waitress was fantastic! She was attentive, cheerful, and gave us some excellent recommendations. I decided on the seasonal bread pudding for dessert, and it was absolutely wonderful. For my main dish, I ordered the hot honey chicken with sautéed spinach and a baked potato with toppings on the side. I also could not resist asking for a little cup of that beer cheese for the potato, and it did not disappoint. So good!
My husband ordered the ribeye steak, paired with a sweet corn side dish and a Caesar salad. He was in heaven! I could tell he was savoring every bite of that perfectly cooked medium-rare steak. Huge compliments to the chef for getting it spot on!
We also ordered hot tea and coffee, mostly to warm up a bit, though we did not mention that to our waitress. She must have sensed it, though, because she kindly comped both drinks, joking that we probably got them to warm up. She was not wrong, and that was so thoughtful of her!
As a final note, we were devastated to realize that we absentmindedly left the leftovers we had so carefully packed on the table. I was really looking forward to that second piece of chicken and the beer cheese-topped tater, and my husband was so sad that he would not have the breadsticks as a snack later on.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and we will definitely be back. Even if it is just for that amazing...
Read moreIâm rating Half Moon a 3, easily could be a 5 star, but let me share our experience.
My family and I typically come here and have great food and great service. Today we came and we had Angie as our server. We started out asking if there was an allergen menu available, one of my children has a dairy sensitivity. She very rudely said no and didnât bother to ask why or figure out any sort of information to better serve us. We all ordered. My father in law ordered a 12oz ribeye medium rare. After Angie dropped our food off, we didnât see her until she brought the bill. My father in lawâs $33 steak was nothing but gristle and fat. She never came back to ask how his steak was, then she brought the bill when our meal was almost concluded. I said something about my FILâs steak, and she rudely said âwell what do you want me to do about it, make you another one?â So we paid and left. We had two children under the age of two at our table as well, so I did not mention anything to the manager. Iâm simply writing this review because I was a server, I understand the job, and I can differentiate a server who cares and doesnât do a great job and a server who is just blatantly passive aggressive and rude. I know people have tough days, but there was absolutely no excuse as to why she treated our table this way. We still generously tipped 25% on a bill for a party of 7. But as someone who has loved going to Half Moon, this visit was incredibly underwhelming and I was astonished by the lack of manners and hospitality from Angie. Everyone else enjoyed their food, almost as always. It is just disappointing we all had a subpar experience because of our server, specifically the man who ordered the $33 steak and couldnât enjoy it, but still paid...
Read moreFirst off, Lala is an amazing waitress. I loved her whole vibe. She stayed up on drinks and made sure we had everything we needed. She gave us recommendations.
My husband got the Half Moon beer sampler. She gave us a sheet so we knew what was what. They had several options that we could do.
The rolls were really good. They gave us a whipped honey butter similar to Texas Roadhouse's, but not the same. The artichoke spinach dip was really good.
For our meals we got the Smokehouse Combo with 4 meats. The smoked sausageand chicken were delicious. The brisket was DRY and was more like a roast. The ribs were tough and dry. I'd pass on those two. We got mashed sweet potatoes and the sweet corn souffle. The mashed sweet potatoes were great. The corn souffle was basically mayonnaise and corn. I wasn't a fan of it. We, also, had the Half Moon burger. It's freaking HUGE. It's a burger you are going to want to cut into. There is no way you are picking it up with your hands and taking a bite with the burger fully intact unless you are Zach Edey. The onion ring on it was so good. Perfectly done. Pulled pork was great. The homemade chips were done well. I like mine to be a tad thicker, but they were not overly crispy. Got the Bread Pudding to go. It was good just didn't hit my bar to the Old Country Buffet bread pudding. Our youngest got a mini corn dog and Mac n Cheese. He loved it. Check came and all this was $80. Expected to spend a lot more for what we had ordered. Took home the majority of what we ordered because the portions could feed a family of four.
Anyways, definitely should...
