The food is over the top incredible! Hands down the best Chilean Sea Bass I’ve ever eaten. That was the star of the show and I swear it was served within 5 minutes of ordering it. I also ordered the Hamachi Nigiri and although it was tasty, I really was a bit underwhelmed after having the sea bass.
I know, I can’t stop talking about that sea bass! It was absolutely perfectly prepared. Silky and shiny inside when you flake it open, but crisp and sweet on the outside. Even the slaw that was served with it was delicious. It was citrus-y and bright, with a dried orange slice that made for a lovely presentation as well as a tasty, crunchy addition to the slaw.
If you choose to go with a roll, the Hamachi Truffle was amazing. The slices are small so you aren’t uncomfortably stuffing your mouth full while you visit with fellow diners.
I also recommend the Chocolate Caramel Dumplings for a perfectly sweet ending. They are not only adorable, but they taste devine! What a delight to see little chocolate dumplings served in a steam basket! Very cute and creative. It’s chocolate mousse with a caramel filling dipped in chocolate with a little gold top, all shaped like a dumpling. And the crispy rice on the bottom took it up a notch. They arrive frozen, so it’s good to wait few minutes and let them soften a bit. I was so excited I dug right on and had to struggle with the spoon to get those first few bites.
Now, for the vibe. Don’t let the dark and intimate ambiance fool you, this place is full of energy and the music is so lively you might just find yourself dancing in your seat. I would say the music was too loud at times and interfered with my conversation.
I definitely recommend a reservation, it’s a popular spot. I went early and ate dinner at the bar. I dropped down a star for the service category, but note the food came out exceptionally fast. Customer service is huge for me and there were a few occasions when it fell very short. Initially, I wasn’t ‘greeted’ when I arrived at the host’s stand. I was simply asked if I had a reservation, which I did not. I asked if they had room for a single diner and was pleasantly informed that it would be at the bar top. This statement was followed with an arm gesture motioning generally behind the stand. I waited awkwardly while they seated another party. After a moment when I realized I was no longer on their radar, I asked if I was supposed to seat myself. It wasn’t a question from frustration, I was just genuinely confused if I was supposed to be waiting on them to walk me into the restaurant or not. She was very gracious and apologized as she showed me around the corner. Paired with that, I felt that the bartender was not really engaged. He didn’t check in for a while after I got my food and certainly didn’t notice when my water glass was low. He was very engaged with others seated at the bar, so it was a bit disappointing. The fact that the food was served so quickly, and was beautifully presented was a huge positive for overall...
Read moreI have dined out at many restaurants, high end and lower end ad even the Komodo in Miami, and I have NEVER had such a terrible disrespectful rude audacity-filly server as the guy who waited on our party last night at Komodo. It was unbelievable. I don’t know his name but he was a 25-35 year old white Caucasian brownish haired guy. We took my friend here for the last night of her bachelorette party weekend to close out the trip. One of the bridesmaids ordered the kung pao plant based chicken entree. We received our food and ate. I commented to her that it really tasted a lot like real chicken, so when our server came by our table we asked him about that, and he said “oh, I substituted real chicken instead of the plant based chicken because a lot of ppl don’t care for the plant based and I was sure you wouldn’t like it” !!! We were stunned! I took a deep breath and I asked him why did he feel that it was his place to do that without asking and he said “well I’m sure she eats meat because she didn’t ask me about the spicy edamame’s sauce and it has some meat in it, so if she didn’t care about that then she eats meat”.. now we are really looking at him like he has lost his mind. So I told him, in the future, you don’t just substitute plant based chicken with actual chicken without clearing it with the person who ordered it, and his reply was exactly this “don’t try to tell me how to do my job, I’ve been working here long enough to know what I’m doing, I’ll take it off the bill tho”.. I told him I’m not trying to tell you how to do your job but you are way out of line” he says “yes you are” and walked away. I was fuming. I wanted to get the manager but I didn’t want to ruin my friend’s last night of her party so I let her talk me out of doing it. When I shouldn’t have. Because clearly this guy should not be working in the service industry at all. He was rude and unapologetic and indignant about what he did. So of course he avoided the table for a while and then came back with a dismissive passive aggressive attitude and said I’m sending some shots over for the mistake. I did not drink the expresso shot he sent because I’m never looking for handouts, if I wanted it I would’ve ordered it and paid for it. We just wanted normal good service from a normal good person, not some over the top ego driven creep. When he brought the check out he said “oh sorry for the mixup I didn’t mean to, and walked away. Terrible service but we still tipped because people always think black people don’t tip so we didn’t want to perpetuate that stereotype but he didn’t deserve it. The worst attitude on a server that we have ever had. And I go to Komodo on Brickell all the time and it’s amazing, never had anything but the best experiences. I will never eat at this location in...
Read moreI went to Komodo with four old friends and we all agreed that its quality of food, service, and atmosphere were towards the top of any restaurant we've been to. I was looking for a restaurant with a sophisticated style and creative (yet non-gimicky) food, and Komodo delivered.
The staff were very attentive without making us feel rushed, and our server Ray gave us thoughtful recommendations to suit the interests of our group. I found the service of the whole front of house team to be very impressive, especially as the dinner service grew busier, but we continued to incrementlaly progress with our family style orders one by one without any delays.
Sharing dishes is not usually my preferred style, for which I occasionally get poked fun at, but this was a great way to try the different options and interact at the table.
In our group, the food resulted in reactions from a thumbs up, to more often, us interrupting each other mid-conversation to try each plate as it arrived because we were so impressed. The Milk Bread was the top favorite, and the only dish we ordered a second plate of on this whole visit to Las Vegas. The Mushroom Lo Mein, Tuna Roll, and Sea Bass were also noted as options that initially flew under the radar but were truly impressive with their complexity of flavor and spot on preparation.
The great food and atmosphere did distract me from the drinks. My friends enjoyed the extensive sake menu, and the cocktails were creative.
The atmosphere was quite cool as well, with very intentional lighting and design elements making Komodo feel almost like a club, but in an energetic way that still felt appropriate for dinner, too. Even though it got quite busy and a DJ started playing, I was impressed that I could hear my group easily.
I don't really have a bad thing to write about Komodo. We did agree that the brussel sprouts and green tea creme brule did not stand up to the other dishes in terms of depth, even though they would have stood on their own well at any other reataurant.
We have been nostalgically discussing our time at Komodo after every meal for the past two days, and I will definitely be going...
