I often visit the coffee house, at least once or twice a week during my work day. I love the drinks and the food. But after my visit today, iām not sure if I will be coming back.
There is a gentleman that sits outside of the establishment. He is a war veteran and is an extremely pleasant person to speak with. There are many people that do visit the coffee house that enjoy taking a few minutes out of their day to speak with him. Some people may just dismiss him as a āhomeless manā but to most other people who regularly visit the coffee house, he is a very nice person to share a few moments with.
Now iām not sure what happened but the owner came inside the establishment talking to a lady saying he canāt do anything about the homeless people outside and he was sorry that they were harassing her. I thought that was strange because with my many interactions with this man, he has never harassed me for money or anything of the sorts. Iām always greeted with a , āhave a great morningā , or āhow are you doing today?ā (not many baristas ask that to customers just saying.) Iāve taken many people here too that have also had great interactions with this man. Anyways, I leave the store and I told him I would see him soon, like I normally do. He told me he was feeling upset and I asked him what was wrong, he told me that the owner was being rude to him , his friend , and some lady customer. (The lady the owner was talking to in the store.) Turns out the owner was upset about this man sitting in front of his store, saying he was steering away business and making the place look bad. That man has never steered me away but honestly the behavior of the owner made that place look bad.
Coincidentally, the lady that was āharassedā came out and the man started to apologize to her saying he was sorry if he made her feel uncomfortable. She said that she never felt any way and didnāt know why the owner was acting that way and saying that stuff. It turns out that the lady and the gentleman have had many meaningful conversations with each other and are on good terms. She never got harassed by that man. The lady left and the owner came out and started taking pictures of the men and saying stuff under his breath.
I had to leave at that moment to go back to work, but it made me feel awful after witnessing that. I donāt know if I will be returning if thatās how you want to treat random people, especially homeless people. It would be understandable to be a little frustrated if the man was actually causing issues but every time I go, I ALWAYS see patrons of the coffee house speaking to him and having good conversation. Maybe advocate for the community a little more and have some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn my mission to try every coffee place in Lincoln and my next stop was The Coffee House. Itās downtown so of course if youāre feeling like going out of your way for something new, parking is a hit or miss. I was considering doing a drive by to see if the parking was worth it on a 7 am morning, and luckily there was a spot right in front of the cafe. You go in one door and then a door to the right that leads into a quaint little room with a high ceiling. Probably one of the smallest cafes Iāve ever been to, but the line of customers said enough about the quality of the actual foods/drinks. Almost every table was full with customers doing their work very diligently, I can tell itās a staple place for them. I didnāt know where we were supposed to stand in line, and some others seemed to just follow whoever was in front of them. Some stood from the door leading to the front register, while others lined up directly straight, getting a little close to the other tables. After you order you just stand a little awkwardly to the side and the customers try to figure out whoās in line and whoās waiting. They have a great variety, specializing in Irish syrup, something unique about this place. I tried a lavender latte, it was a bit too bitter compared to other lavender lattes Iāve had, so I regretted that choice. The strawberry croissant was so good, I highly recommend. The girls working were accommodating and working hard as the line got longer and longer. My cousin got the peach croissant and one of the Irish flavored drinks. Her drink was incredibly good. All in all, Iām definitely coming back on days Iām feeling spontaneous. Great food and drinks, I definitely recommend starting with their specials first though. Whenever I try a new cafe that I find mid, I usually donāt return. But this cafe is definitely worth the visit, and Iām excited to try the rest of the menu. I have their latest menu attached since I was a little confused on finding their updated menu on Google. Itās a bit crowded, so if quick takeout is your usual like me, I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently started coming to this establishment after the Starbucks on P street closed. I had been recommended this place because they had unique breakfast items, a friendly staff, and arguably, the best coffee product in Lincoln.
Most of those statements are true. Regrettably, one of them is not.
I have no gripes with the Coffee Houseās products or baristas. The service was perhaps a tad slow, but I attribute that to an under staffing issue. It did not appear that there were enough baristas working at the time to properly keep up with the sheer influx of business they have been receiving as of late. I hope and assume that will change as they adjust to the new volume of foot traffic.
The service I received from the baristas was exemplary; they were attentive, friendly, and careful to make sure that my order was correct and to my tastes. I observed their interactions with some of their regulars and they appeared to have a friendly, first name basis relationship. Just the sort of experience you hope to get from a local shop you frequent.
I ordered an iced coffee with Irish crĆØme flavoring and a splash of almond milk. Would recommend.
However, what I was less than impressed with was the leadership I witnessed while I was waiting for my drink to arrive. A woman who looked to be slightly older than the barista who was making my drink, started to berate her loudly and indiscreetly in front of everyone surrounding the ordering counter. I assumed this woman to be the manager.
This was a big turn off for me as a customer. Though I enjoyed what I ordered, this interaction made me deeply uncomfortable and I do not feel inclined to return again. This was highly unprofessional and the owner should know that such conversations should never take place publicly in front of a customer. Just some food...
