I had been going to GH weekly for the past few months. Since that time I’ve noticed the owners frequently be rude to customers. Last week they aggressively threatened then called the police on a homeless man who wasn’t bothering anyone. At that time, I thought they needed lessons in de-escalation. This all culminated with me arriving today and sitting down to take a meeting before ordering my usual drink and sandwich. After about five minutes the owner came up to me and told me to order a drink or get out. I told her I’d place my order shortly and that I was a regular customer, to which she curtly replied, “that doesn’t matter. You need to order right now!” As I stood up to order, she pointed her finger across my face toward the door and yelled at me to get out. I set my shock aside, gathered my things, and she proceeded to walk up on my heels, practically pushing me out the door. I’ve never been treated with such disrespect, especially in a business that I frequent. Despite my observing their previous rudeness, I went against my better judgement because I wanted to support a Latinx owned family business. I will never patronize Ground Hideout again and I will tell all my Long Beach friends to stay away. They do not deserve anyone’s business! I bet it was an offended customer who broke their window a...
Read moreIt's really unfortunate that I'm writing this because everything was fine at the beginning.
We stopped coming here because the daughter was rude to my friend and embarrassed him in front of customers. They had a wet floor sign placed (not 'bathroom closed') so after a few minutes once the floor looked dry, my friend went to use the restroom and before he could reach the door, the daughter scolded him in front of everyone for trying to use the restroom while it was closed for cleaning. We didn't know that. We waited for the floor to dry, per the wet floor sign. Shouldn't have been a big deal at all. He even apologized after getting scolded by her. She just kept looking mad and annoyed afterwards while tending to other customers, which made us feel uncomfortable and we left immediately. I'm assuming based on other reviews here that she's 'Sue'?! I hope they can talk to her and help with her interpersonal skills.
The parents (owners) are super nice, the mom has always been so sweet. The coffee is good too. I recommend the paninis. Customers that come here are friendly as well. You have to pay for street parking, which sucks, and they're a bit pricy but this is becoming the norm for good coffee shops in Long Beach. But overall, good coffee, good food,...
Read moreI have to say I being a coffee lover and one things I love is visiting different coffee shops. I love supporting the local coffee shoes and their brands and not to mention the diversity it brings. I often work at these different place or I just simply enjoy the company and or Ambience of each place . But I have to say this place is nice but the” SERVICE “ didn’t make the atmosphere of this place . The lady who was taking the order’s am going to “ assume “ she is the “ owner “ was very rude but yet tried her hardest not to show it . I truly understand the Latin culture and this Lady matter was very transparent and unapologetically rude . Which is ok if you are not running a business . Whatever you are going through or issue ect you have to check that at the door and treat everyone with respect and care Especially in the service industry. Her children that were very nice and Engaging with Customers that was good and I can understand why most people choice sit outside , yes it’s beautiful outside but the atmosphere inside does make you want to sit outside 😉 I do say the food is good and coffee ☕️ but the attitude does not match the rest of goodness of the place which...
