Stopped by tonight for a late dinner. When we arrived we were greeted and got a table by the door. First time to this restaurant so it took us some time to decide what to order but the waitresses kept on asking are you ready are you ready. LOL "NO!" Anyhow, we finally decided on the Raw Korean soy sauce crab, a medium uni rice bowl and a spicy crab hot pot. At first we wanted to order the combo (since it was more of a deal) but they told us no combo today. They also said the smallest size uni they have available tonight is the medium and above. So the meal came out quite pricey.
They first brought out the banchan which included fish cake, creamy squid, ddeoboki, and chap chae. The banchan was ok tasting. I love the crunchy squid. All two hot bowls of rice. Then they brought out the raw Korean soy sauce marinated crab with 2 bowls of dry seaweed, seaweed salad and sesame oil. Since it was our first time, the lady was very nice and showed us how to eat it. Told us to use the gloves and then squeeze out the crab meat in the seaweed bowl and then add a spoon of hot rice. Mix it together and eat. It was very very tasty. Did not taste fishy at all to me. We followed the procedure for the rest of the crab.
Then came the uni rice bowl. It was basically a full uni cracked open in half, filled with rice, masago (black, orange and green) and seaweed salad. Don't mix just scoop a spoonful into your mouth. The uni was very fresh. I enjoyed this the most.
Lastly came the spicy crab hot pot. There were 2 entire crabs inside with a bunch of veggies like leak, green onions, onions, daikon and Italian squash. It was a little bit on the spicy side (my nose started running) but overall was good. Food was all but it was a bit pricey. Ran us $120 for 2 people.
Service was ok. Taught us how to eat the crab, but after all the food came, we didn't see much of them. No tea refills or etc. Also, we ended up being the last ones there, and they were just staring at us to finish so they can close. Make use feel very uncomfortable.
They do have a parking lot but you have to pay. It's $4. They call it valet but if there are open spots they tell you to park it yourself. So it's basically paid...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I visited here on a Saturday lunch time. We used to work for different Korean restaurants when we were younger, so we review restaurants’ food and services quality with some standards. As foodies who know Korean restaurants well, we both agreed that we WON’T COME BACK here. Here's our honest review:
Food quality: We ordered the combo of soy sauce marinated + Sea urchin and their spicy crab. The soy sauce marinated crab was barely okay, but the spicy crab was a bit disappointing. The spicy marinated sauce did not have "deep flavor" and tasted cheap. We could tell the they did bare minimum for the marinated sauce quality. The sea urchin was shocking. They put rice in it, and the rice was HARD. We could instantly tell that rice was at least made yesterday. I've never seen a Korean restaurant where serves hard rice. It shows disrespect in the Korean culture.
One tip to find a good Korean restaurant is that if a restaurant is visited by many mid-aged (40-50’s) Korean men, you know you are at a place that cares about ingredients and taste. We didn't see any here even at the peak lunch time on a Saturday.
Customer services: We put our name on the waiting list, and we were on the first on the list. However, three different groups who came after us were called first. When we were finally called in, we realized that it was because they wanted to put us on a side table where only two people could awkwardly fit in. (Other groups had bigger party). Again, it shows disrespect to customers who wait.
Food came out and as we were having the second crab body, one of the waitresses came up to us and said crab pieces were accidentally served more and they are going to take away some from the plate that we have been eating.....😨😨😨😨 It gives me a reasonable thought that they can easily serve what had been on the table already to different people in other cases too.
So in summary, they have the disrespectful food quality and customer services. Don’t waste your time and money. There are other Korean crab restaurants in...
Read moreCrab House has exceeded my expectations as to how authentic can they be compared to the restaurants in Korea that specialize in raw marinated crabs. I was first exposed to Korean crab when I first traveled to Korea years ago during a study abroad trip and I haven't had anything close to it in the states, until now.
My friend and I both decided to try this restaurant because we both were craving it and were in the area after getting our haircut. Before you judge us, we were starving when we ordered and everything looked and smelled amazing. For lunch, we decided to order: #3 Korean Raw Crab Marinated in Soy Sauce (2 person) as well as a Spicy Crab Stew (Medium). Honestly, we realized we ordered too much food towards the end of the meal but we sucked it up and tried our best to finish most of it.
The Korean Raw Crab was phenomenal; salty and sweet the first moment it touches your taste buds. No need to fight over which piece to eat because each part of the crab was rich in meat and not like the Dungeness crabs you'd get from Asian markets. Make sure you follow the directions of what the servers tell you when you eat the shell, you have to mix certain things to enrich the flavor.
We could've skipped the Spicy Crab stew or ordered the small version. The flavor was okay but not too spicy. I kinda hoped it was a bit more spicy and flavorful but maybe it was just me. Towards the end of the meal, our server offered to make us fried rice using the remaining soup and that tasted better than the soup in my opinion. We weren't sure if the restaurant typically offers fried rice as an option but I'm happy our server did.
I would definitely give the raw crabs a try and maybe skip on the stew if that doesn't call your attention. I do want to come back and try their uni because we saw most tables order it but we were just too stuffed to order more...
