Me and my boyfriend went here on July 30th, 2019 and I had one drink and paid for it right after with my credit card - since it was dark in there I was looking for my card and whilst looking for my card the Bartender - the larger bartender, took a very loud sigh insinuating I was taking too long. Keep in mind the music is loud in there, so if I can hear you over the music then you’re being rude. I let that go and went on about to have a great date night with my boyfriend. I wanted another drink so my boyfriend went back to the bar to get me a $12.00 whiskey and cranberry, after a while I realize that it was taking longer than it should have and looked to the bar to see the bartender, smaller Hispanic looking guy, going back and forth with my boyfriend, I walk up to assess the issue and he is claiming that the $20 given for the $12 drink was counterfeit. So I ask him to get the counterfeit marker to check the $20 because the small lamp he was using to check it with wouldn’t have worked. He said he didn’t need to he didn’t see the streaks on the $20 bill and took my drink out of my hand, so I took it back and it spilled on me and both my boyfriend. Now we are a young black couple, so at this point it’s racial profiling. The bartender ended up getting 3 security guards to escort us out, we then explained to security what was going on and had them check the $20 bill that we had given the bartender - OF COURSE IT WAS REAL. So furthermore to prove a point I had my boyfriend pull out all of his money for them to check and OF COURSE IT IS ALL REAL. We received NO APOLOGY after this incident, which is very upsetting because I’ve been to this place multiple times and my boyfriend has also DJ’d here before. I can not recommend coming here if you are young and black because clearly we aren’t wanted at this...
Read moreI think this place is haunted. Really. Every time I took a picture, I could see what may be otherwise categorized as lint fly across my viewfinder. And, no matter how well I adjusted for light, all my images came out blurry.
Categorized as a Speakeasy, Dirty Laundry is a basement bar at the Hudson apartment building. Finding the entrance can be tricky - it's on the right of building along the black iron fence. Password could be found on Twitter.
At first, I thought the bar was named Dirty Laundry because it was where the laundry room for the Hudson Apartments use to be and the space had been converted to the present bar. However, Dirty Laundry is in reference to how booze were smuggled during Prohibition - in laundry baskets.
I'd like to think the former and it would explain the lint visible when I took pictures. Moreover, it would explain the dense air in this space.
Once in, watch your step. The floor is quite uneven at transition points between rooms, especially where stairs are involved.
There are quite a few spaces that you should check out, with drink in hand. On that note, the bar is not one of them. I am of the believe that the bar should be a feature or a focal point. At Dirty Laundry the bar for me conjures images of what a subway stop in New York would have looked like in the 20s and is not that fascinating.
The one space that I did find quite interesting was right around the bar to the left. This room gave me eerie vibes. It is purposefully decorated. Take a look at the nude photograph atop the shelving - the gal in the photograph seems to be looking right...
Read moreThis review is more so for "No Vacancy", the sister bar to "Dirty Laundry." However, with the same management i think this review is pertinent to both establishments. Tried to get In to celebrate my 30th birthday in November 2017 after our tickets to see Bruno Mars from Stub Hub were deemed counterfeit. We had no problem waiting but when my brother in law asked David, the door man, how long the wait was and told him we were there to celebrate a birthday, David said he would see what he could do and asked us to step to the side, Taking us out of the line we had already stood in line for over 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the line we were patiently waiting in initially, shrank significantly as they were letting them in while we were left standing to the side by request. After another 45 minutes waiting, We decided that we were no longer interested in waiting and watching the doorman belittle women by only letting those who were aggressively hitting on & so forth. The only positive thing I can say is that the bouncer, who i didn't catch his name, refused to take a bribe from a small group of guys trying to get in. If only David could learn from his own bouncer, maybe newbies wouldn't leave angry and resentful. My brother in law's favorite bar just turned into one he is ashamed of after trying to share it with his girlfriend, brother and I. I will definitely be spreading this review for No Vacancy and their sister bar Dirty Laundry as well, on pure principal. Do yourself a favor, find...
