I found this place on Google while searching for Peruvian food in downtown Los Angeles. I was craving for which I hope would be authentic Peruvian cuisine ( specially since I saw a rating of 4.4 and good reviews. So I was very eager to visit this place while doing some business in the Jewelry district.) Unfortunately I did not enjoy what I ordered. One of the national dishes of Peru is ceviche for which the country takes pride of this. One would think that they would make something authentic, but this was just horrible. I I didn't even come with high expectations, so just to be clear I don't want to have the owner or manager think that I was expecting a Gaston Acurio or something from Rosa Nautica. Just a proper ceviche is all I wanted. Everything tasted bland, no seasoning at all. As a matter of fact, the young cook Who I saw working by himself in the kitchen most likely used frozen cooked shrimp and cheap tilapia for which he only squeezed a lemon and chopped up some onions. Look at the picture, since when is ceviche served with boiled potatoes? Are you serious? Where are the yams ( los camotes?!) or even yucca? This place is perfect for those that don't know anything about Peruvian dishes. I can only comment on what I ordered. There are many of other dishes that hopefully taste better,. I do see that there were quite a few patrons, perhaps the pollo a la brasa and chaufita and lomito is a better choice. I don't come to Los Angeles often, so I left very disappointed. I will not return. On the positive side, it does look like a clean restaurant and the staff behind the counter who happen to be Brazilians were very friendly. But one comes for the food not for the smiles. I would suggest training the young lad in the kitchen on how to make a better...
Read moreIt was my first time coming here. i’m a fellow peruvian who loves looking for peruvian places to remember the authentic peruvian taste. this place wasn’t one of those. the food was bland as well as the chicken wasn’t completely cooked through. the server who attended to us was Nicholas. He had the rudest attitude. he threw the utensils on the table and walked away. along with this, i ordered a tallarine saltado de pollo which is my favorite peruvian dish. i let Nicholas know my order and he proceeded to order me a lomo saltado and said that it was what he thought I said. both dishes sound completely different. i wanted to ask for my receipt but he didn’t even give me the chance to ask before walking away. after i told him three times that I ordered a tallarine saltado de pollo, he rolled his eyes at me and scoffed at me. at this point I didn’t want my food anymore and asked for a refund because he kept on getting my order wrong. he told me no because my food was already being made so I left it alone but I did want my refund because the price from the tallarines and lomo saltado were completely different. it was only a dollar difference but I was upset because of the poor service. i asked if i could have my dollar back and Nicholas proceeded say “huh” to me even though I was speaking quite loudly and I didn’t want to yell and it felt like he was mocking me. i mentioned the dollar again and he then proceeded to tell me, “do you really want that dollar back.” Worst service ever, never coming back here again. He...
Read moreI have to agree with most of the other reviews I saw on here from Peruvians. I was really hoping to like this restaurant and have a good Peruvian restaurant near where I stay when I go to LA.
This is not it.
The flavours were really lacking in everything I had. I ordered the Chicken Saltado and a Chicha Morada. I was brought a soup first on the house but it didn't really have much flavour of anything. The Chicha was really watered down even though it didn't have any ice. It tasted like the used powder mix and put too much water in, not like it was made using purple maze like it should be.
The saltado once again didn't really have much taste and while I was hoping the spicy sauce they brought me would help, the sauce was barely spicy and (the running theme here) didn't have flavour. I expect a spicy Peruvian sauce to not just be spicy, but to bring flavour to a dish.
I'm not sure if they're trying to appeal to a more diverse palate and play it safe or if it's because of costs but everything I had was...
