I've lived in Los Angeles my entire life and NEVER have I heard of Thai Town. I’ve been in this area sure, but never knew it actually had a cultural significance. Honestly Thai Town doesn't feel much different from its neighboring communities. In fact Pa Ord Noodles is located next to a liquor store and across the street from a 99 cent store….not really the imagery I’d imagine emulating Thailand. But once you walk through the store front, sit down and take your first bite of this delicious cuisine you won’t feel like you’re in Los Angeles anymore. 1st thing I tried was the spicy chicken Larb. Now this is no joke people, it’s offensively spicy so brace yourself. If you could get past the red pepper flakes the chicken crumbles were well-cooked and texturally gratifying. I would suggest getting medium to no spice so you could truly enjoy the other flavors of this dish. The egg rolls were delicious! Not too much to say about them. If you love veggie rolls you will enjoy these. As my main entrée I got the Seafood Noodles with the flat egg noodles. The noodle ratio was a bit off so if you perfect a bit more noodle then ask for some on the side. The flavors were immensely diverse. You had your spicy and savory, the fishy and oniony tastes. It was a spicy dish that was soothing to the soul. I could imagine this dish cheering me up on a cold winter’s day. The portion size is pretty large and I had enough for leftovers. I also tried the Pad See Ew which was really good! You really can’t go wrong with this dish. The noodles glistened but wasn’t too oily to eat. Needed a bit of the garlic-chili sauce but other than that it was a pretty legit dish. Another notable mention goes to the Spicy Curry Catfish. Packed with so much flavor and spices, this was one of those dishes I would never imagine getting but totally glad I tried it. The catfish did have bones to beware.
The service here was ok. We did have a large party so it took a while for everyone to get seated and order from the menu. The staff handled our party of 9 graciously and was very attentive to our water needs. Most of all this places wasn’t expensive at all, for 9 people we only paid about $16 each.
Parking is a bit tough. It doesn’t get crowded so plan accordingly. And they do accept Credit Cards, with a maximum of two cards per table. We did speak with the Manager and she let us use 3...
Read moreCame to Pa Ord for lunch, and despite seeing almost everyone eating thai boat noodles, we chose to order something else on the menu. Food didnt taste great at all (see individual comments below) but the staff and service were nice.
Here are the ratings for each dish, 1 being poor and 10 being the best.
Thai milk tea - 9 From my home country we have alot of Thai milk tea around too. Must say that this is one of the better ones i've tasted. Not worth the price though.
Thai pork fried rice - 7 Best dish on the table that day (and hence it gets a photo recognition). The rice was quite wet and puffy, but they did use overnight rice so that was good. Abit more on the oily side.
Pad see ew (beef and tofu) - both 3 Noodles were not flavourful, the chilli didnt really blend well into the noodles, vegetables overcooked with too much wok hey scent. Beef was totally tough, trop cuit (man, that cow sacrificed in vain), and it was like biting through staedtler. The fried tofu was not much better, the skin was so impregnable that the metal fork cannot even pick it up.
Shrimp cake - 4 Serving portion of 4. It was freshly cooked and hot, so i cant imagine what it would taste like after it cools down. The batter layer, again was too thick and the size was huge, took me awhile to finish.
Tom yum soup - 6 Big portion that serves 4. Awesome that they gave a generous amount of ingredients. Won't say its the best in terms of taste (more salty than sourish flavourful), but it was comparatively better than the other dishes.
Must say that it's a big regret for not getting the thai...
Read moreSo again the wifey had been here when she used to work in the area and decided to bring me and our daughter here after so many years.
We love Thai food and in Thai Town of Los Angeles you will find the most authentic Thai cuisine around.
I always try a new Thai Restaurant's Pad Thai because if they do an amazing job with that, then you know the rest of the food will be just as awesome and delicious.
And sure enough they do an awesome and delicious Pad Thai with a healthy serving of tamarind sauce in the mix. I tried their crispy pork as a protein option and I didn't go wrong with my choice. I have been to many Thai restaurants including 'Spa Thai' in Utah State which had a similar comparison with their food. That crispy pork game was beyond on point, I couldn't believe my taste buds. That took my Pad Thai experience to another level. I've not ever had it like that!
My wife got their Pad Kee Mow, side order of their chicken wings, and daughter got their yellow curry with chicken.
Everything was super delicious and very authentic. We all loved our meals and I definitely want to come back here to get more items on the menu.
The restaurant was clean, organized, professional & friendly service.
I am very happy that my wife brought me here!
