"Heroin Drug Problem"
I recently stayed at the Dunes Inn-Sunset (March 15, 2014) and upon arrival it wasn't bad. The guy in the lobby was friendly and the rooms were clean. The rooms were on the small side, but they were a good size for the price. I booked this room due to reviews I saw on Trip Advisor and it looked like a good value. After arriving back at our room on Sunday night, there were police and firemen in the room right below our room which was room 218. I spoke with the nice man in the lobby to find out what was going on only to find out the man below us died from a heroin overdose in room 118. We quickly packed our bags as it was uncomfortable staying in a room directly above where a man had just died from a drug addiction. Upon checking out, the man in the lobby was nice and said that this doesn't usually happen and that we should contact Noah or Queenie to obtain a refund due to checking out early and the events that took place. Judging by the reviews this would be no problem.
After calling to speak with Noah or Queenie, I cannot say enough about how poorly they treat their customers. They showed no sympathy about what happened and did not process a refund as "it's hotel policy". I completely understand that there is a policy in place, but due to the events of a man dying right below us they could have processed a refund. Any person who knows how to run a business knows that word of mouth is powerful and that a refund should be made for the horrible experience. I know I didn't want to see the coroner show up and haul a body out in a body bag and neither did my travel companions. The man on the phone proceeded to tell me that "we don't want customers like you anyway" and hung up. Needless to say, it was quite the experience dealing with them and I would highly suggest finding a different...
Read moreAfter reading great reviews online, I recently decided to take a spontaneous trip to Palm Springs and opted to stay at The Dunes Hotel. While I initially considered the Hilton, I found myself deterred by comments about its outdated facilities, prompting me to explore other options. The Dunes stood out with its impressive ratings on Google and Yelp, so I gave it a shot.
When I called the hotel, I spoke with Eric at the front desk, who confirmed that all rooms are non-smoking—definitely a bonus for me. I ended up booking two nights through their website and appreciated the convenience of online check-in.
I drove from Santa Monica and arrived around 8 PM, thanks to traffic. Upon my arrival, Robert greeted me warmly, making the check-in process smooth and hassle-free. I had requested a room near the pool, and they graciously placed me in a lovely second-floor room right in front of the pool.
The room was just what I needed: clean, spacious enough for one (or even two), and pleasantly uncluttered. Perhaps because I visited on a weekday, the hotel was quite empty, which suited my desire for a peaceful retreat. I also had the pleasure of meeting Lindsay, who was friendly and welcoming during my stay.
The location of The Dunes Hotel is a traveler's dream, just a short drive from local coffee shops, restaurants, and shops. The affordable price of $107 a night made it an even more appealing choice compared to the Hilton.
Overall, my stay at The Dunes Hotel was thoroughly enjoyable. It’s an excellent option for solo female travelers! The hotel provided the relaxing atmosphere I was seeking, along with exceptional service and a convenient location. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting...
Read moreThe staff were mostly friendlyish, I asked if I could smoke outside my room (some places dont allow onsite smoking) and I said I would stay by my car, they said "as long as not one smoke molecule gets in the room otherwise we wont get our deposite back"...really? Really, not one molecule? Especially when a bag was over the smoke detector when we entered the room. The room was to my surprise very clean CUDOS to the cleaning staff (plus I watched as they cleaned room all day and let me tell you those girls and guys hustled and worked their butts off). The room was really small and outdated but hey its an old motel and we were just going to shower and sleep. The door was hard to shut and thus was very loud when closing as were our neighbors doors. The ceiling creaked really really bad when the guy upstairs walked around. The price was normal for the area and we would definitly stay again. The bathroom was really clean and no cigarette burn stains on the tub that you would expect in a place like this. The water pressure was better than I expected and the water could get really hot, perfect. This place has its quirks but all in all not a bad place to stay and it definitly filled up. I felt safe enough even though there were homeless all around the area, nobody bother anyone else, that I would go out to the car in the middle of the night to smoke. Pleny of cameras and staff around to be safe. I liked this place and definitly would...
