⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2
Overall: This is one the more progressive Adventist churches I've attended. The church gives a breath of fresh air to those looking for a Christianity that addresses issues that many churches do not, yet does so in a welcoming, supportive, and positive way. If you're looking for great contemporary worship music, this is definitely a place to check out! Hollywood has a great community with church members that welcome everyone, despite their background!
Welcomeness: When I entered the church, I was kindly greeted by someone with a smile and given a bulletin. The congregation was also warm and welcoming!
Environment (what it looked like) The sanctuary was set up like an open auditorium with cushioned pews. It was well lit with natural lighting. There were many screens for lyrics and announcements which made it great to view from all seating angles. The church's audio and visual system provided great sound and helpful slides which were projected to help the congregation follow along with the songs and the message. The lobby had a cafe feel with tables and chairs.
Atmosphere in church (the shared feelings from the building) The church gives a meditative and comfortable atmosphere. The church was 30% filled which made you feel like you had a good deal of space to yourself.
Worship Music The worship music, consisting of a full band with guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and a few vocalists were great! Musicians were well polished and the vocalists sounded great together. There were four contemporary songs in the set that the congregation was very familiar with and participated at a high level. category: contemporary instrumentation type: guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, 3 vox quality: great crowd engagement: high duration: 4 songs
Sermon The head pastor preached a message that connected with the audience. His message was very contemporary, drawing metaphors and connections from today's events and culture. He had a story-telling delivery drawing stories from his life. Rather than exclusive, his message was welcoming and inclusive to all people, all denominations, and all faiths. The sermon was reflective and thought provoking. Duration: 11:40-12:05

Read moreMe and my wife visited California in the spring of 2008. We were at L.A. during the Easter weekend. My wife is a 7th day Adventist. We decided to attend the Sabbath school and the worship the Saturday just before Easter Sunday at the iconic Hollywood Seven Day Adventist Church. We arrived really early because of our 8hour jet lag. I remember the deep blue sky and the tall imperial palm trees on the street nearby. The church was not very crowded but we got a warm welcome. I was impressed with the type of discussions the members had at the Sabbath School. But what I really liked was the warm and cosy worship, the informality of the pastor and the impressive band (with guitar, bass, drums and keyboards). It was a very unconventional ceremony for our experiences but I still remember it as a memorable one. Next time we visit LA I will try to go there...
