UPDATED REVIEW:
Yesterday was my third time here and I was upset! I was there celebrating a special occasion so I expected the same experience I had a couple of months ago. Previously everything was perfect and flavorful. This time everything was different and I hate that! It’s not even that the food was bad, but it was NOT prepared the same and the flavors were different. Might I add it was a different chef. I know this for a fact because the chef brings out the food.
I wanted to come back specifically for the oxtail mac n cheese egg rolls because I had been thinking about them since the last time I came because they were so good. This time it was more Mac n cheese than oxtail, and when my friend commented the chef overheard her and brought out egg rolls with only oxtail, but he wasn’t too nice about it.
For my main dish I ordered the jerk honey chicken, rice & peas and cabbage. First of all as soon as I saw the rice I knew it wasn’t right because the color was off. It was dry and flavorless. Last time the rice was perfect and I loved that I could taste the coconut milk. The cabbage was fine, nothing special. Now the chicken was cooked to perfection and it was flavorful HOWEVER the flavor was NOT jerk and honey, and I’ve had it before and it was. This time it was basically smoked sweet and sour chicken. No jerk. No honey. I literally have the same sweet and sour sauce in my refrigerator! Not even remotely the same as jerk and honey.
Now lemme get on the hostess. She shouldn’t be in the front. When my friend and I walked in she just stared at us as if WE were supposed to greet HER. It was very awkward. I don’t even think she greeted us properly. She also was not attentive at all. I almost didn’t leave her a tip. Right after the food was placed on the table she asked if everything was fine, but we hadn’t even tasted the food. Then when we were basically done and I had to flag her down and I expressed my disappointment she was just looking at me like I was crazy, not knowing it wasn’t supposed to be a celebratory meal for me.
I came way across town only to be dissatisfied. It also was very hot and stuffy in there. No A/c going just the main door open which wasn’t doing anything. Third time was supposed to be the charm. I won’t be coming back.
OLD REVIEW 6/25: The food is always flavorful and cooked to perfection. The OXTAIL MAC & CHEESE EGG ROLLS!!!!….. my God! 🤤🤤🤤🤤 I took one bite and was doing the happy dance. Our server Zei was excellent, very attentive, but not overly attentive. She was pleasant as well. The only thing this place is missing is some alcohol (I understand why), but at least have...
Read moreI hate to leave this review because the place is gorgeous and has potential but the service and overall experience was subpar. It took forever to get greeted and we weren't offered menus or even a QR code for the first 15 min upon arrival. They only serve tequila drinks so I'm guessing they don't have a liquor license? My drink was made secretly behind the bar with Trader Joe's juice. I ordered a margarita. We were switched servers several times but when we finally got one she doubled as the bartender so we barely got any attention. Now the food -- great portions and presentation. I ordered the jerk honey wings, beef and chicken patties and the curry shrimp with rice and peas. Everything was great expect the patties. They were cold in the middle and we couldn't get the servers attention to do anything about it. I had to ask the hostess for a fork or water, just the basics. We were here to celebrate a birthday so we brought a cake. We quickly realized this is not technically a restaurant -- it's lounge with bottle girls and not servers. While the sparklers and sign was a nice touch, it would've been nice to get plates and a knife to eat the cake ya know? Or ask if we'd like another drink? After sitting with empty cups for an hour. They were activity bringing in bags of flour in the middle of the dining room... it just seemed that they aren't fully ready to be in business. I'm writing this review while still at the table -- that's how bad the experience was. I hope in the coming months they pull it together or get some better staff. It does have great potential but I'm extremely disappointed for our birthday girl!
Update: during the check out process they charged our mocktails (no liquor) for a full drink charge although they were advertised on menu for $12.00. They ring it up as Calamari -- something sketchy is definitely happening here. Server checked us out and had the worst attitude. Lost a star at the end for such a terrible ending to a birthday dinner.
NEW UPDATE 5:19 - Owner found my number online and called to beg me to delete my review and get feedback from my experience. He talked to multiple people from our group and offered us refunds. Promised to call back with an update and processing our refunds. Never called back and never gave us our money back. DO NOT EAT HERE. Will be following up with Public Health to report the illegal activity happening here as well as the...
Read moreUPDATED Review: My fiancé and I were craving soul food and wanted to support a Black-owned Caribbean spot. Since it’s been a year since I last tried this place, I decided to give it another try. The music blared with amazing tunes, creating a club-like atmosphere. The hostess and owner, Phabio, ensured our enjoyment. Our attentive waitress, Kyla, recommended dishes and was super sweet.
We ordered the Pink Barbie drink, Sunset mocktail, Oxtail Mac & Cheese Egg Rolls, Jerk Shrimp Tacos, Jerk Honey Lamb, Oxtail plate, and Mac & Cheese side. Everything was delicious, flavorful, and very Caribbean. My Haitian fiancé even gave them two thumbs up- “C’est Ci Bon”.
Everything tasted so good, but the Oxtails stole my heart, next time I need to try it with pikliz lol. This is now my new favorite Caribbean spot and I can’t wait to come back. If you want to support a Black owned spot, especially during Black History Month, check it out. You won’t regret it ;-)
Old review below: I was sooooo excited to try this place. I came for my friend's birthday dinner and we couldn't wait to celebrate her. I saw people standing out in front (the owner/manager) and I asked if there was parking in the back he said you just have to drive around. As the owner you should have been a bit more helpful.
After waiting for cars to move I finally found metered parking across the street. Inside it was a cool party vibe, music was on and people were ready to party. I noticed they had an upstairs as well as an outside back room for smoking. We first got drinks and asked to order food to which they said we couldn't order for 30 minutes because they had a private event upstairs. We were all so hungry and had a table at the club nearby so wanted to eat right away so we wouldn't be late.
We complained to the owner and he apologized and they got us another round of drinks for free. But we didn't go there for drinks, we went to eat! 30 minutes went by and they said it would be a few more minutes. At that point the birthday girl was over it and we ended up going to the club where they also had food thank goodness.
I was so disappointed because I really wanted to support a Black owned spot with Caribbean food, but they let me down and I will never go back. I hope they get it together sooner...
