I've never had such bad service for the times I've gone until one Friday night. Food, service, and quality was aweful. I had reservations at 7:30pm for 2, and we didn't start eating till about 9pm? For one, our appetizers didn't come till after our meal and the quality of our Porterhouse Steak and Ribeye we had was bad. Just FYI, that night was pretty packed at Taylor's, also with the Laker game was going on, I saw how busy it was that night when the valet sign said "Parking Lot full", luckily / not so lucky we had reservations? For as long as I've been coming here, I've never seen the restaurant so packed, and it was the first time I was seated upstairs, which also had a full bar along with the game playing. Usually when I did visit, the ambiance would be a little quiet, somewhat dark, playing the Rat Pack music vibe in the background, weather its Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, etc. But not this night, something in the process of getting our food from the kitchen, the attentiveness, all the way down to the waitress was aweful and the quality of our meats that we ordered was almost unacceptable. Meat was so tough, that cutting it felt like a workout. I've always loved Taylor's because of it's nostalgic history(being one of LA's oldest steakhouses), classiness, and the quality of their meats. Maybe Taylor's can't handle the full capacity especially on a Friday or Saturday night? Surprisingly, I was there for a birthday about 2 weeks prior, and my Bone In Ribeye was perfect! Although we had started an dinner on a Wednesday with no reservations and the ambiance was...
Read moreAll we wanted were bloody steaks. What we got instead smacked of homophobia and sexism.
This was my first and last time at Taylor's. My partner had been coming to this restaurant for decades with her family--neither she nor they have ever been treated like this. Another LGBTQ couple joined us. We were dressed in a range of attire--some of us wore slacks and sweaters, some of us had on jeans and a clean white T-shirt... Meanwhile, there were others (men) in the dining room wearing Dodger's jerseys, baseball hats, hoodie sweatshirts, and even Crocs.
The hostess brought us upstairs to a corner booth and after we were all seated, told us: "Just so you all know, for the future, the attire is not casual here."
We immediately raised our concerns with the server, who became very uncomfortable and simply stood there with her mouth agape. We asked her to show us the dress code policy, as we were not aware of it, and gestured to everyone else in the dining room also dressed casually. She confirmed she wasn't aware of the dress code and gave a weak apology, stating the hostess was "just doing her job" and pleaded with us "not to take it out on your server."
After spending well over $250, we later received a forced rendition of Happy Birthday, followed by a sad scoop of vanilla ice cream, all in the name of "making things right." We then watched as she did the same for nearly every diner in the restaurant.
We have never been treated with the disrespect we received at Taylor's and we will certainly not be...
Read moreFantastic steak, old school atmosphere 9/10
Interior is like a time capsule. It completely departs you to a different time and place and it doesn’t seem like the bustle of KTown is right outside. Super charming old school vibe right away.
In serving order:
Bread was ok, butter was ice cold and impossible to spread. We were the first diners of the night, so we likely got them right out of the storage fridge.
Cocktail was awesome, limited wine by the glass selection, but decent options.
Prime rib was mouthwateringly rich and flavorful, ribeye was grilled to perfection with just the right amount of char.
Lobster tail was huge and super tender!
Mashed potatoes were silky and buttery, asparagus was perfectly crisp and fresh, but the creamed spinach was too leafy tasting.
Was excited to try the key lime pie, but was so bummed they didn’t have it! Not a big cake fan, and the chocolate cake was intense - super dense and chocolatey. We also ordered the pistachio ice cream, but they brought the mocha. Not into coffee ice cream. So dessert was a bust.
Waitress was sweet but had a quiet voice and was tough to communicate with. We were celebrating my wife’s bday and she sang the bday song quietly and quickly, and it was cool. It was special and cheesy in the best way and not all showy and obnoxious.
Liked that there weren’t screens on every wall, but they did seat us at the first table right next to the bar so the TV was audible since we were there pretty early before the...
