Great experience. The gentleman, I'm assuming the proprietor, was very knowledgeable.
My new bride and I (we were married the day prior on the Royal Lahaina Resort beach) stopped in looking for some serious coffee and boy did we find it.
We had the French press local variety (I can't recall the name) for $8.50, enough for two. Very good.
We didn't know the shop was two minutes from closing, but the owner/ master barista asked if it was for there or to go. I said to go, but he stated it tastes so much better out of a ceramic mug (as opposed to the paper cup).
We then realized it was closing time, but he insisted on us trying the ceramic cup and staying there.
We agreed, and we were glad we did. Long story short, he informed us Maui coffee had recently taken top spot in the coffee championship the last two years over the world renowned Kona coffee.
We purchased the 100% Maui coffee Peaberry.
My goodness! When we arrived back home in Northern Ohio, we were in disbelief that coffee could be this good. Mind you it's $39 a pound, but I'm am completely fine with the price when experiencing something so unbelievably good.
I was just looking for the website to order more and had to drop this review. It simply is my new favorite amazing coffee.
On a side note, I asked what the expiration date was and his reply was "expiration date?... this stuff is grown and roasted across the street and is delivered three times a week to my store". He wasn't kidding. It is the freshest of coffees I've ever tasted.
It almost feels numbing to the palate if that is any true descriptor. Just amazing. I'm calling tomorrow to order more!

Read moreThe first couple days I went there it was amazing the service was wonderful and the staff was kind. When I came the next day the baristas were rude made no eye contact very cocky tone and talked to us like we were stupid. My father and I brushed it off and decided to just wait for a food. After waiting for 10 minutes (which when we were there the previous days only took a max of 5 minutes). The lady hands out a lady’s sandwich whome ordered after us. My dad whispers to me asking which sandwich I ordered and the lady starts yelling saying “HUH” “WHAT IS IT” then my father says well why is it taking so long, then the lady responds with can you wait its in the toaster with and eye roll. After that my dad responds with geez then walks out (because we have a table outside). Then the 2 baristas start mocking my father saying geez and start laughing. I go and inform my dad that they are mocking him. My dad proceeds to walk inside and wait for the sandwich. After he gets the sandwich he says in a calm voice “well you guys had a good laugh mocking me right”. Then the lady has a total meltdown and starts SCREAMING saying stuff like “BECAUSE YOU CAME IN HERE YOU RUINED EVERYONES DAY” AND SAYING “YOUR SO RUDE” we didn’t hear the rest because we didn’t bother listening to...
Read moreIf you're reading this, you're likely not from here. It's cool, I'm not from here either, but I'll head back to Island Press Coffee tomorrow. Do yourself a favor and skip the Starbucks you always get back in Cedar Rapids and hit up Island Press Coffee. Here's why:
Great coffee. I kept it simple and got a simple drip coffee and it did not disappoint. Given the other prices on the island, things here seemed reasonable. Sure, you could get the very same drink you always get at Starbucks but you did not travel 10 hours just to have part of your typical Tuesday routine. Breakfast sandwich (croissant) that really hits the spot. Warm croissant with ham egg and cheese. Good for Kids. I brought mine to the island and we ventured over here bright and early to get some energy out. They have bagels with Nutella which means grab extra napkins. Seating outside is available. Kids can run around, you can sit in the sun while you enjoy your coffee, eat your breakfast and enjoy the fact this Tuesday morning is unlike most. I saw locals walking in to get coffee. I like to go where the locals go. They know when they are being overcharged for luke warm insipid coffee and they know they don't...
