This was my favorite place to eat and drink while visiting the island. I just visited for 9 days and was quite excited to make this my main eating/watering hole like I have on all past trips with my family. But my family and friends that were with us were unpleasantly surprised to see how rough and dirty it has become. Our guests were very excited to try this place as I had upsold them on it on our flight over. What a disappointment it really was.
The staff were just OK, not nearly as friendly or happy to be there as they seemed the many past times I have been here. I felt like the front door ladies were on a different agenda and didn't seem to have any motivation or drive to do anything. They acted like it was such an inconvenience for them to take us to our tables. One day the front door lady was bringing a group past our table she was so zoned out and not paying attention she smacked a kids high chair into me. She did apologize but her overall demeanor to begin with is why it even happened.
We went on multiple days so not everyday was bad just a couple. On one of the trips our waitress was doing a great job only to ruin it when we had asked for checks. She proceeded to drop off our bill, we had cards in hand to give to her. She immediately put the bills on the table and looked away rather than taking the cards and proceeded to go have a rather long conversation with someone else and completely ignored us back turned to us. We just looked at each other dumbfound. With bills in hand and ready to be paid about 8 minutes goes by and by the grace of a co-worker that noticed we had been holding these up to pay for quite some time, she went over and tapped our waitress on the shoulder and pointed at us. She turned around acknowledged and rather than coming over decided it best to just keep talking to the guy for a few more minutes.
The food was very blah and lacking in content. The biggest disappointment for me were the drinks that were below par and not what they use to be. The prices, well they've only gone up for less product. I was certain the situation was a one off and didn't want to let the Moose go so quickly so we came back the next day for round two only to feel the same way. Thinking that we just hit a bad couple days we ended up waiting a few day to try again. Same old thing. I just didn't want to believe it was this bad so we tried one last time. Yep- that became the last time!
The floors, tables and pretty much the entire place needs to have a good scrubbing done to it. Everything was sticky and greasy like the same mop and towels have been used for way to long and no longer clean just smear old crud.
The Moose unfortunately has wandered off on my radar and I just can't see us going back anymore nor recommend it to anyone. There are far to many other places right around that area that provide better service and better quality food for...
Read moreFood - The food here is absolutely incredible and contains so much flavor. I got the teriyaki Burger and it was one of the best burgers I have had in my entire life. Portions are quite big so be prepared to take things home! The menu does not have a lot of variety for vegan dishes but the food is easily customizable for other dietary restrictions as long as you ask. The food in general has a lot of options and is really good. You could taste the freshness and quality.
Service - For the amount of times I have been here the service in general has been very well done. This restaurant presents job opportunities for teenagers which I also love but the teens who work there always are respectful and kind. When you sit down at the table the servers always make fun conversation and check in on you quite regularly. In my experience they have never forgotten to bring something to the table. They might bring certain things out a bit later but it always ends up coming. The manager is very sweet and answers any questions people might have. She makes time for everyone.
Atmosphere - the atmosphere is one of my most favorite things about the restaurant. There is something so unique about the decorations in there. On every single wall there are photographs, I would say there are over 1000 in the restaurant a hung up and framed. It's fun to look at all of these vintage pictures around you and look at the story's they tell. I especially like that they have a separate room away from the bar for people with young children who don't want to be near that. Or really anyone all you have to do is ask.
Absolutely love this place and it is somewhere you have to eat if you are in the area. MAKE A RESERVATION THOUGH. Some nights they are incredibly busy with an hour long wait while other nights they...
Read moreI recently visited Moose in Kihei and was very disappointed. I opted for to go and was greeted by the host who promptly directed me to the bar. I sat at one of the bar stools and there was 17 people counting me. The bartender was making dri as and talking with other patrons but seem to disregard me for a few minutes. After he approached I told him I wanted to go and ordered. He neglected to ask though if I wanted anything to drink while I waited, after he took my food order. After a few more minutes he did return and ask if I wanted anything. I ordered a beer and after a few minutes my food was delivered to me at the bar. I waited again for the bartender so I could pay and had to ask if I could pay after awhile. I took my food and went back to our condo. The food was in one word awful. The chicken sandwich with red sauce had no taste. The fries were not salted or seasoned and the sauce for the cheese sticks was basically bland as well. I could have ordered from a fast food place and got a better product. Now here is where everyone is saying I obviously have no restaurant experience. Wrong been in the industry since 1985 and have done both back and front of house positions as both employee and management. Also lived and worked in Kihei back in the late 80s to early 90s. It's a pity that service and good food has become far and few between on Maui. Oh and yes I did...
