I was part of a group of about 18-20 adults celebrating a birthday this past Saturday. The birthday boy was excited and had been talking about this place for weeks… most of us enjoy good bourbon so we were excited to learn they had a real nice selection… we arrived and it was busy we were told it would be a wait for a table or we could go to the bar… it was packed and a little claustrophobic but we stayed and ordered… the bartenders are great.. we finally got a table after waiting almost an hour which was a 4 top and a 2 top so some in our party continued to stand at the bar… not a big deal as the ambiance and the drinks were great. My group was not being loud or bothering other customers however after being there for a while and most in the group continuing to order drinks we were asked by the owner to vacate the table and go to the bar so we gladly moved over to the 2 top. The owner came back over and asked us to leave that table as well. When I asked, the rationale was his wait staff had to make money.. I understand this however the wait staff came to our table one time to clear glasses and I asked for a water other than that we had to go to the bar to get drinks. Notice again we were not asked to leave the establishment just the tables. When we tried to reason with the owner he was very unreasonable would not explain further. We ended up tabbing out immediately and taking our business elsewhere, no one in the group will go back. The bartender and waitstaff apologized on behalf of the owner which I thought was kind of sad that anyone should feel they have to do this. When I asked him about how much word of mouth and social media reviews meant to him he stated that he didn’t care, which surprised me post covid when all businesses especially bars have struggled to survive. Like I said the environment and the drinks are cool the wait staff and the bartenders are nice… but don’t plan on going and having a seat if it’s busy as you’ll be asked to go to the bar. I just wanted to add that I’m in the customer service industry, my company expects me to provide customer service that exceeds expectations… I don’t expect this when I go out, and I do know the customer is not always right. Unlike the owner I understand how a review or word of mouth can make or break a business and I would not recommend this place and will not...
Read moreMckinney locals beware!! Been coming to the square for 20+ years and never have I ever experienced this kind of disgusting behavior here or anywhere for that matter.
Do NOT come here! This place is not only a fake "underground" speakeasy, but it's run by a set of repulsive staff! Our company came here to celebrate our business employee being promoted to part owner of our company and instead of being welcomed on in she was treated like absolute trash the minute she walked up. Instead of being celebrated she was made to feel embarrassed, was harassed and belittled in a very public setting for wearing a "baseball" style hat, mind you it's pouring rain out. She has very long wavy hair and was trying to keep her hair contained...humidity, drizzling rain & womens hair do not mix well. Mind you we just walked 3 blocks in the rain from having a wonderful dinner at Harvest. Decided to check out Room One Eleven for a night cap. So she gets harassed and reduced to tears, by the “bouncer” and staff but somehow it's OK for several patrons inside to have on hats. We inquired about this and they said "sorry baseball hats weren't invented before 1920". Next time “why don’t you fix hair before coming here…”. Really?! Who acts like this or says things like this? What a complete shame and distasteful representation of our city and beloved Mckinney Square.
While this was happening outside , we had no idea, we were waiting for 10+ minutes at the bar for everyone to come in. He finally comes over and just stands there looking right at us, not a word. So we’re having this awkward ordering moment, Then he finally opens his mouth and says “you want something?” We are all extremely annoyed with this place at this point and just want to get a drink and move on. How are social influencers recommending this place. It’s absolutely sucks and won’t recommend anyone coming here. This place is Layered Coffee house during the day, then it becomes a complete dive bar after hours. With so many OTHER wonderful places in the area that will treat you right, make good drinks w/o being jerks AND make you feel welcome, DO NOT come here and waste your time and money.
Not only did they embarrass our business partner but our company as well for suggesting we...
Read moreI am reviewing based on my experience on May 6th - I had been here once previously and had a great experience but after this we will not be back.
We had been warned by other patrons but wanted to give it our assessment and those warnings proved correct.
We arrived around 10, after having a late dinner and wanting to grab a drink before our party of 6 all went our seperate ways. We had been excited to show our friends this bars espresso martinis.
Upon entering there was not a table available so they told us to stand along the back wall near the restroom and order drinks, totally fine with us! The host said when you see a table go ahead and sit down, so as a party got up we went to sit down, the owner runs over and tells us to move for other customers who had just walked in the door. He said the table was for four but the two tables of the same size next to it all had 6 sitting at each booth. When I stood up he told me I needed to go back to the wall quickly because I was blocking the flow of traffic, I had been standing up for no more than 10 seconds at that point while listening to him talk. So we went back to the back wall.
After ordering 2 rounds of 6 drinks. We were “cut off” and my husband was told he needed to stand at the bar and drink a glass of water because he ordered 6 drinks for our party of 6? We became very confused what was going on. When we asked what we had done the owner came over and told us none of us could order anymore drinks? We simply had been trying to make it easy and order as a group.
We were by far the youngest people in this bar (ages 27-28) - Our group consisted of attorneys, cpas, and successful business owners so we were all shocked by the way we had been treated after spending $200 on 2 rounds of drinks. We will not be returning. Even this morning we are shocked at how aggressive the owner was.
