It was his birthday and so we got us a treat here. It was Saturday and we got the earliest available time 12:15 for brunch. We arrived on time, and parked our car in a parking garage, right opposite to it. They might have their own valet service as well. On arrival they treated us well and got us the table which was already arranged. We started with water- and then I got some coffee while he got the tea. The tea was pretty usual, where as the coffee was quite good. They served a whole pot (French press) of coffee. With this there was freshly baked biscuit. The biscuits were house baked, glazed on top and quite big in size. They have a several stuff to serve with it. I opted for strawberry preserve and he got some lemon curd. Both were great, and we enjoyed our biscuits. Our server was quite charming and got us the food we choose. For the first course I opted for the ham and bread ( they have some fancy name for it though), and he got the bagel with smoked salmon. The ham was savoury, and a little hard. It was great altogether with the bread and a hint of mustard ( or something? ) with a side of cantaloupe. Overall, it was quite fancy. Moving on in the second course, I asked for the chicken and waffle, while he got shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits was very hearty and comfy meal altogether. It was quite filling with cheesy grits and shrimps on top.honestly, waffle and chicken was a total flop I would say. It was very basic. The waffle was just like what you get in waffle house. The three boneless chicken fries also could be way more better. They were crunchy from outside, and moist inside. However, they were very sour in taste. What did they put? Too much vinegar or something? Whatever, they need to work on it. Finally, the show stoppers arrived - desserts. They have some three tiered trays with three different pastries. All bite sized- and decent in taste. I liked the chocolate ganache tart most. It was more like what you get in whole foods, nothing extraordinary! Overall, it was nice however, ample room for betterment was there. Overall, the food was pretty decent, and flamboyant. But there is some x factor missing which we expected in upscale place like this. Nevertheless, I recommend it. 46$ per head is too reasonable for such a fare. I will...
Read moreI've been to many steak houses all across the USA & Canada. And I'm not talking about chain steak houses like Ruth's Chris. I'm talking more along the likes of Smith & Wollensky in Chicago, or St. Elmo Steakhouse in Indianapolis or that of Carnevino in Las Vegas.
I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted a steak that rivals those above. (St Elmo's is still my favorite) I'm very partial to rib eye, but was in the mood for some seafood.
We were promptly seated at a small table, with nice comfy wide chairs. The atmosphere was nice, but it was a little loud, but that could just be the table of 6 people with the 5 bottles on wine on it. :P I was comfortable.
We decided on the anti-pasta for our appetizer, which should be marked for parties of 4+. I didn't want to stop eating it. But I knew what else I ordered and forced myself to stop.
She ordered Grilled Salmon with steamed asparagus, I decided to feed both my craving for seafood and my carnivorous need to steak. I chose the 20oz bone in Rib Eye "Cowboy" steak, with Oscar topping (hollandaise sauce, with carmelized onions and Lobster meat) with saute spinich. Both the vegetables was more than enough for 3 people.
My 1st bite of the steak didn't have any part of the Oscar, and wow did it get my attention. The knife dropped right thru the meat as it was very tender. 2nd bite was mixed with lobster meat and sauce and I'm still drolling over it now 24hrs later. I slowly at each bite as it was like slow dancing with that special someone you finally got the nerve to ask to dance.
The service was very good, prompt, and not over zealous.
I am not a food critic, nor a writer (as you can tell) I just felt compelled to let some others know of this place (that replaced DUX in the Peabody Hotel) and of this awesome steak! It was far better than any Ruth's Chris' (or Flemings or Folks Folly here in the Memphis area) and on par with those I mention above for sure.
I cannot wait to go back! Is...

•waitress was polite at least •duck desert was cute •wine was great
We had reservations and a confirmation code but when we arrived we were informed our reservations were cancelled. They were slow so we were still seated within ten minutes but this was only the beginning. The waitress was polite but absent, our water was never refilled and we were never asked how our meal was. It seemed like she had our table and then her other tables were all on the opposite side of the restaurant. The steaks were completely unseasoned and there was no salt or pepper at our table and we had to ask the hostess for them. The steak was cooked properly but the cut of meat was poor, I’ve had better ribeye at Texas Roadhouse for half the price. We never have this issue at Capitol Grille or Flemings. The mushrooms were chewy and hardly flavorful. The mashed potatoes were pretty decent. The only redeeming part of the dinner was the wine and desert. That’s where your one star comes from.
Overall this dinner was a gloomy reminder that “You are not special” on what was supposed to be a great 30th birthday night. We had planned on going out after dinner but we’re left with such a sour taste that we drove back home. If this is the quality the Peabody demands I will never set foot in Chez Phillipe, which was supposed to be our destination for Valentine’s Day. We will stick with Flemings and be sure to have another great experience.
At the end of our dinner we got to listen to another upset group of guests who waited 40 minutes to be seated despite the sea of open tables around us have to ask to see a manager to even get seated!
This was the worst birthday dinner of...
