We stopped by Bolu for the first time during our recent visit to Miami Beach. There are a few kebab shops in South Beach, some of which we had visited before, but we chose Bolu because of their location in regard to our hotel and because a lady gave us a flyer for 10% off our visit.
The restaurant is very clean and the staff were super friendly. My wife had a doner sandwich and I had the doner and fries box. This menu option was another reason why we chose to visit. I used to live in the UK and my local Turkish kebab shop offered an option for meat only, which was my preferred order after the pub. With yummy Turkish garlic and hot sauces on top, you can't go wrong.
My wife's sandwich was great as was my box. I was a bit disappointed in the amount of meat provided. I wanted more, but for $8, it was a fair amount. I didn't ask if I could just get $8 of meat without fries. The only complaint I have is that their doner is beef, not lamb or a lamb/beef mixture. I sent them a message on Facebook asking why they chose to serve beef but they...
Read moreI told them I wanted double meat they couldn't understand anything I was saying. I also told all three employees or owners I couldn't have spicy food and have to have certain stuff only on my gyro. They made my gyro and said it was ready which I told them 4 times what I could have on it and they still put everything on my gyro. Then got mad because I ask them to remake it and put what I told them I can have on it. It also wasn't a double. My daughter ask for cheese and olives on her the guy gave her two olives and said cheese would be extra so she ask for a couple more olives he said that would be extra. Just not a good place to go and the food doesn't taste good the rice taste either like it's been sitting all day or not done. I am from out of town on vacation spent over 50 dollars for food that's not edible and they told me in a rude way to go sit down until it was done I tried to tell them I needed to stand there and let them know what I can't have the meat is like beef jerky taste so bad I guess I wasted 50 something...
Read moreI’m originally from Bolu, Turkey—an area renowned for its Michelin-level chefs, world-class kebabs, and naturally raised meats and vegetables thanks to its mountainous terrain. Bolu’s culinary culture is rooted in centuries of tradition, with flavors that are both deep and refined.
Unfortunately, my experience at this restaurant—despite its Turkish name—was the opposite of what Turkish cuisine truly represents. The taste, quality, and service were far below expectations. The kebab I had was the worst I’ve ever tasted. It lacked the soul, technique, and authenticity of even a simple meal from my hometown.
There was no connection to the heritage or flavors I know from Bolu—no respect for the culture or the ingredients. It’s disappointing to see such a misrepresentation of Turkish food. I hope the owners reconsider how they present and prepare this cuisine, especially if they want to honor the...
